When I crank my car up cold it runs fine. After letting it warm up if I park it, let it sit a few minutes and then start it up again it will act like it wants to die every so often for 30 seconds. For instance I start it out in first gear then the power drops out, I give it some gas and it surges, shift gears go for a sec, power drops, repeat. Then after about 30 seconds or so it calms down and no prob. Strange.

Check plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing.

Could be heat soak in the wires, bad rotor/cap, bad ICM/Coil, bad ground, faulty injector(s), dirty air filter... the list goes on and on sadly.

So many things it could be - get yourself a Helms and follow the troubleshooting and testing for the problem.

Try resetting your ECU and see if it repeats the problem afterwards... sometimes I have ignition issues, and a reset clears them up for a few days.

 

Thanks, but I dropped the motor in myself (that's a GOOD thing) and I'm on top of the basics. Looking for similar experiences or insight.

i had similar symptoms with my b16a, however i wouldnt call it a loss of power. i would say its a rough idle. i fixed it by turning the idle adjeustment screw to make it idle a tad higher, and have had no problems since. the funny thing is i put up with it for a year because i was too lazy to look into it/never remembered to.
