I never would have guessed this offered such great gains...now I'm a believer. Have a look

i need to be able to put it back on quickly incase someone else needs to drive it...although not having a belt handy is a good way of saying "no, you can't drive the car..."
If I wanted to remove the whole pump, but leaves the lines in tact incase I want to put it back on, can I just cap the lines two lines that are left and push them out of thw way? Just to clean up the engine bay a little?

I actually did cut off my a/c & p/s belts off once. I don't know about power gains but the throttle response and acceleration improves a great deal. But be prepared to give your arms a workout, especially if you have oversized wheels and tires.

I plan on pulling the pump and resevoir and going from there.
with a breather setup the effort should be drastically reduced...but for now I don't mind it.

It's actually not all that bad when you're up to speed. People don't seem to realize that.. at highway speeds there really is no difference, and anything over about 10mph is very very easy on the arms. Parralell parking can be a bitch though, but I did it this morning in a very tight space.

I had my PS belt removed for about a month, and a few weeks ago looped the PS system and added a breather. At a dead stop it is a little easier, but it is still pretty tough. But it is even easier to turn the wheel when you are moving slow, which makes parking a whole lot easier.
I can't go back to power steering now, it feels very inacurate. I just did an autoX last weekend with out PS and it felt great.

i dynoed with and w/out power steering and the net grain was 3 whp throughout the powerband.
Removing the whole system should make the wheel easier to turn than just removing the belt

if you do plan on getting rid of the p/s setup, then you should get the non-power setup from the 88-91 civic. you can damage the rack & pinion if you run it w/o the belt. dont know the exact reason for this.

if u keep about half the power steering fluid, this will lubricate the rack and shoudl prevent the rack from being damaged
