Why is every review about any product on the market so similar? Surely some products stand out. The worst is with subs. "Oh man they hit so hard. They'll hurt you." How hard is hard. Hard as in 155dB?

The problem with all these review sites is that the only useful piece of info you can get is is a product is prone to failure. Even then you can't be sure that people aren't botching the install. Why doesn't anyone get some quantitive data or at least an objective direct comparison?

Why is it that people claim that **** that the buy at walmart will "blow your guts out"? I just can't understand this ****. People throw junk speakers on a junk amp in a junk car and claim it is the greatest **** in the world. Then someone buys it and is pissed off.

Sorry, I just like numbers and curves and ****....

 

i've often though about that. Not to mention it always depends on how well the box was made and to what specs. I have people come in telling me they don't need new speakers with the alpine/panasonic/etc deck because they already sound awsome. I just wish I could throw a set of infinity's in really quick.. like they'd just appear, and let them hear the difference in their car.

I guess the reason is... the people who say that haven't heard anything better, plus why would you want to call something you just paid for junk. So, in my mind, don't even bother with reviews for the most part

 

Exactly. It still just makes me mad that you spend hours digging through uninformative feces looking for that golden nugget only realize that it doesn't exist.

 

Maybe the groups writing the reviews are scared of bashing certain brands... then those brands feel offended... then they don't put their ads in those magazines... then the magazine only has one ad in their rag for the one best brand or whatever.

I have a feeling the review process is very political and objective. What sounds like crap in their car may sound awesome in yours. I think the best opinions you'll find are from people on these forums because they use the products every day and they usually have no ties to the manufacturers.

 

I think sound and vision has soem rather useful reviews though its for home equipment. For most speakers they include a frequency response chart.

 

Long ago I subscribed to Stereo Review for $5 a year. I started to realize early on that I had never read a bad review in the magazine. I guess it's really just an advertising forum hidden in that way. How clever, make me pay to read ads.

The best way to get around is to go to car stereo contests and listen. I heard big differences in product offerings. When you hear like 3-4 cars with the same stuff that all sounds great/crap then you start to know what's what.

A few years ago you could still go to stereo shops and listen to equipment. Nowadays they ask "How much are you looking to spend?" and they stand there like retards and won't turn on the equipment. How the hell am I supposed to just know what I want to buy, or I guess I should get whatever the retard salesman recommends which will be the highest profit for the shop.

I think the problem is that sound is too subjective. Bose sounds like the best thing since digital audio to some The other problem is everyone has different levels of performance needed to appease them. Some need a tercel, some need a ferrari. Same applies to music.

When I read reviews, I tried to find reviews that require you to list similar products that you have used. This gives me the reference point that the reviewer is using. Magazine reviews are for the most part useless. I only look at them if there is a lot of praise for the product. I have never seen a bad magazine review from memory.

 

Yeah seriously. I guess it just comes down to the simple truth that most people are idiots and that is why capitalism works so well.
