Default Raspy exhaust

Hey guys..

I have a Greddy Evo which I love. I added a test pipe from http://www.testpipe.com and ever since I installed it I have a really loud rasp at certain RPM points. It sounds gay. Anyone have experience with that ?

The one I bought is a non resonated one.. but Im not sure exactly why it rasps.. maybe it's from loose bolts causing it to vibrate ?? I dunno..

Anyway... I hate the rasp. Does not sound good. But I do not want a cat. Recomendations ?

Please don't tell me to buy a high-flow cat. I don't want one.

There must be something else I can do and keep the straight pipe or replace it with a better one. Thanks.. lemme know.

Anytime you drop the cat, it gets raspy unless your muffler isn't a straight-thru design.

Even though its not designed to, the cat absorbs some of the sound. The brick acts as a baffle to a certain degree.

I came across some test pipes in a British mag years ago that claimed to
absorb some of the raspyness.... I doubt they work without incresing backpressure.

you shouldn't be running a straight pipe on the street anyways

i have a test pipe with a matrix straight thru muffler, no rasp, just loud as hell

i also have a 4-2-1 header, so maybe that eliminated the chance of any rasp? i have no idea

ive never been a fan of greddy exhausts

When I see all pre-1990 domestic V-8s outlawed, I'll put my cat back on.

I had the same problem. I was told that with all the extra flow that the baffles in the muffler will vibrate because they are taking the full force of the exhaust rather than being dampened by a cat. I'm sure there are mufflers out there that will absorb the extra sound. Mine turned very raspy and they are straight through.

do you have any dyno proof to show a testpipe is worth it on a f22?

i know some h22 owners run a straight pipe and there are good mid to top end gains, but i don't see it being worth much on the f22. just buy a high flow cat, good flow and not as much rasp.

I wanted to get a header.. but I'm going turbo so I don't want to waste the cash.
Im wondering if the rasp is generated from the test pipe itself... like... if the metal is too thin... or ... if the flanges are loose and vibrating... or.. if maybe theres no gasket between the flanges causing vibration... weird.

Im thinking I should get a resonated test pipe... but I don't want to order from the same guy again.. maybe his product just sucks.

Your test pipe should be something like this, testpipes.com tends to use a 'resonator" like item, that way they can sell them cheap

high flow cat or testpipe, hit me up and ill see what i can do for you!

The turbo will cut down the noise. I was referring to NA.

The cat muffles some of the sound. Removing it causes a more 'crisp' sound on a NA car (I heard 80s Firebirds with their cats removed as well as imports)

Kinda like turning up the contrast on the TV if you know what I mean

nowhere in your post did you mention that, i hope you don't have emissions testing. testpipe+turbo=bad emissions.

i'm no boyscout, but why pullute for an extra 1hp and noise. if you get caught you also face fines around 5,000 to 10,000k.

I had a Greddy on my civic....the resonator was scrapped so bad I had to cut it off ever since then

high rpms=raspy sound

The muffler shop I went to said they could add a resonator and it would eliminate it...

Hope that helps

It's more than 1 hp with a turbo and it's more than 1 with N/A. We have no emissions laws in FL but thanks for caring

Nothing on mine is scraped and it didn't start being raspy at all UNTIL I put the test pipe on.

I appreciate your reply though thanks.
