Default Disconnected IACV

B16A1 in a CRX

Anyways, I've been having mass idle surges so decided to play around with my car. After doing some tests, the problem was traced to the IACV. I disconnected the electrical plug and my idle is perfectly fine. The only problem is now I only have curb idling (my idle does not change with engine temp). Also there is sputtering till my car warms up then it's fine.

Aside from the annoying CEL, i don't notice a diff in the driving performance except that at times it gets a bit choppy when i'm in cruising throttle position (constant mph). Vtec still engages, no mroe idel surge, etc.

Can anyone tell me if I'm doing any damage to my car by disconnecting the IACV? Also if I was to replace one, what model of USDM car would I be looking at (right now off top of my head I'm thinking the B17A)

thx

No.. I don't think the B17 IAC valve will fit a 1st gen B16A. Those use the wider bolt pattern IAC valve. I'm not sure what other engine uses that one.

my understanding from other members here is that the 89-91 Si D16a IACV is a direct replacement for the B16 part. hth

I think that's right.

No damage at all to drive with it disconnected.
If you want to get rid of the CEL, just stick a piece of rubber sheet or even two layers of duct tape over the holes and then put the IACV valve back on.
You will have to adjust the idle withthe idle screw at the T/B but it works. I did that for a while before I bought a new one. BTW, the IACV from a CRXsi or HF will work on the JDM B16 manifold.

for example
some people on civic gets confused and use the wrong plug on the IACV..
i fucked up and i was using the IACV with a plgu that i tought was the right one... on DPFI to MPFI conversions u get an extra plug thats exactly the same one as in the IACV.. i changed it and make sure was the right wires... wich i think are grn and the other one red... plugged it and my idle got fixed.... now when cold idles @ 1200 and goes low as it gets warm... before i always had it on 800... wich didnt hurt anythign at all....
