Default distributor question

ok my distributor is throwing a code 8 check engine light. and a code 8 stands for tdc sensor now my question is can u just change the tdc sensor out of the dist. and if so witch sensor is it and is this possible and to this is for a 95 obd1 gsr dist. and the reason i am asking is that i have a 01 obd2 gsr dist. lying around and wouldn't mind just switching the parts around

I remember somebody saying the individual sensors aren't available, but I don't know that for sure. I suppose TDC is the one with 2 points on the distributor shaft.

Is your timming set properly? that could be a problem, and maybe your timming belt has skipped a tooth? just somethin to think about

If the sensor is bad, replace distributor.
You can get remanufactured ones from dealer or auto parts store.

wht/blu and the org/blu wires go to the tdc sensor so trace it and find it. id just try it if it doesnt work just put the part back in the otherone.

If you have an exra GSR distributor just use that one. I believe they have the same number of wires. 9 total. All you have to do is change the connector by taking out the pins. obd1 uses 2 connectors. One with 2 wires and the other with 7. ob2 just has 9 all in one connector. I'm about to put a 2000 si dist. In my obd1 teg for ls/vtec. Hope this helps.
