i put a d16z6 in my obd0 crx and converted it to obd1. i added the vtec wires and light to see if it works. No light. no codes. only thing is my temp gauge is wack it never reads right. It will be normal then totaly cold then whatever it wants. is my car thinking its not warm so it wont hit vtec?. what camn i do? THANKS
If the coolant temp sensor doesn't work then you won't have VTEC. Engine needs to reach operating temp before the ECU will allow VTEC to activate, unless you have a vtec controller.
It could also mean that you have air bubbles in your coolant. This would result in the heated cooling running over the sensor, causing the temp gauge to rise. As soon as an air bubble hits it it could fluctuate, then when coolant hits it again go back. Try running your car for a few minutes with the radiator cap off and your heater on full blast. If you have air bubbles they should be forced out of the radiator.
