anyone know what are the symtoms usually when an ecu is bad? (97accordlx 2.2)

 

CEL on and car runs perfectly, reports trouble code that doesn't exsist, engine doesn't run, engine runs speraticly, etc.

 

yeah you get all kind of crazy issues

did you replace urs on ur 96? mines an 5spd, its different.
well my car wont start for ****, and it starts every 5 days. i dunno wat else it could be , i already checked the obvioius. im gettin a ecu for 40bux anyways.

I had to replace mine not long ago cuz I would get a CEL every time I had the a/c on and was going slow/stop 'n go traffic/lots of stoplights, etc, and the gas mileage sucked big time when this happened. It also wouldn't throw a code, even right after the CEL was on. 15 bones for a used one at the junkyard and it's good as new. I wasn't suprised that the old one had some bugs though, as it was underwater twice, and turned on both times while submerged. When I opened it up 1/3 of the printed circuit board was all discolored and nasty looking, and a few of the pins were corroded. Suprised it worked at all after that! Car still ran great though, only the a/c CEL thing. I don't know if the newer ones are the same, but for mine the auto and 5 speed used the same ECU, just had to get one form the exact same year. Fixed the problem though
