What bearings you guys referring to ? If it's the throw out bearing, that will typically only make noise when the clutch pedal is pushed in... not while driving.

I had the same problem in mine, initially it was only audible in first gear, and as it got worse I could hear it in any gear, even in neutral except for when the clutch was in. Turned out to be a transmission bearing. While it's apart check out the synchros and gears to save yourself another trip into the transmission.

The problem is the main shaft bearing. It's in the clutch housing part of the tranny, underneath all of teh gears. Yes, you'll need to open up the tranny and you'll have to be careful when taking it apart. I just replaced my main shaft bearing about 2-3 weeks ago. The bearing itself was ~$35 from honda. All of the auto stores around here didn't have it, so it's probably the same where you are.
Oh, did you do any really violent shifts recently? Mine started making that noise when I blew a downshift and destroyed my clutch disk. Oh, if you have any questions, drop me a pm. I'll be glad to help you.

Could someone get a pic of where the bearing goes, im having the same exact problem. Some people tell me the tranny is gonna blow, some tell me its just the bearings. Some tell me its the syncros. How much would it cost to have done at a shop if its just a bearing?
My does the same thing, I have the helms but cant exactly locate the bearing and where it is.
if anyone has a pic of anything please post it. Even though i am replacing my tranny with an R tranny I will still be rebuilding this one.
main shaft bearing huh?im gonna order one up
Mine also started when i blew my clutch disk. I thought it was clutch chatter but after replacing the clutch it was still there
annoying as hell

I don't have a pic, so I'll just try to explian where it is. Alright, there is the shaft out of the tranny that goes into the engine. Now, there are two sides to the tranny, the clutch side (facing the engine), then the bell housing (pointy end facing the passenger fender). So, with the tranny lying down with the shaft going down, the bell housing will come off (take out all of the little 12 mm bolts and then take off the hex plug on the bell housing and pull the snap ring off the main bearing column).
Now, inside, there are three main parts. The main column of gears that connects to the shaft that goes into the engine. Then, there is another, smaller column of gears, and then the final drive gear. So, lift up everything and the main shaft will slip out from underneath the smaller column. Now, the bearing will be exposed. to get it out, use a flat head screw driver and a hammer and pound it out from the outside of the clutch part of the tranny. Be careful you don't pound on one point for too long, or you'll bend the aluminum housing. You'll probably destroy the oil seal, so replace it as well. Just put it back together the opposite way of takind it apart. HTH
Edit: Be really careful when disassembling the transmission. I took my time, being very careful, and being sure of how to put the parts back in. As a final note, when putting the bell housing back onto the other half of the transmission, you'll need to wiggle the short shaft holding the driver between the shifter mechanism and the forks.

actually you explained it pretty good.
overall its pretty easy to do if youve got a helms and all the right tools
Oh and i heard everytime you open the tranny you have to replace some seals or something
do you know anything about that?liek the parts i will need when putting it back together

The seal between the two halves needs to be replaced. Just use a silicon based gasket creator. It's in a tube. I used "The Right Stuff" from Napa. So far, my tranny isn't leaking. Just look around for gasket sealer that is resistant to transmission oil. HTH
I'd also be inclined to say it's a bearing inside the tranny. When you disengage the clutch and the sound goes away, that tells me that it's something inside the tranny.
Maybe this will help you visualize. I haven't finished it yet. I'm working on getting the mainshaft bearing and seal replacement procedure in soon. I just got the gearsets back into the casing tonight, but I didn't get pics, so I'll probably that part step-by-step since I figured out the easy way to do it.

mine made a whrrring sound then a couple weeks later a clicking sound, a couple more weeks and a louder clicking sound. it makes noise anytime the clutch is not pressed in, cuz the shaft spins at all other times, even in neutral.
it ended up being the input shaft bearing for me. 30$ part but sux replacing it.

I've been through this pain before. Replaced the TO bearing, needle, IS bearing...and it did not fix it. The tranny shifted fine...other than the damn noise. I thought it was gonna blow up at +6k.
I sold that car, so I dont know how the tranny is now(I think he swapped it out before it went to *****).
My buddy's S1 did the same thing, then one day the differential snapped. Your call.
