I have a JDM H22A. I was wondering if there was anyway I could tell what year it was exactly either from the serial number or another stamp on the block?
if the original head is still on the block then just check out the stamping.
if it says 93, then it's a 94 motor for instance. the casting year code is 1 year before the chassis of the car.
also i think there may be a stamping on one of the edges of the block, or maybe underneath, that has the year. i can't remember for sure though. i could be wrong on the block year code thing.

Not a for sure method, but you can look at the stock Sumitomo plug wires. The wires will tell you the year of or the year before of the motor.
Again, not a 100% way of telling.
