Day Time Running Lights on 90 Si
hey guys, i don't have DTR lights, i have my normal night time driving lights on all the time, and i go through alot of bulbs, i stopped buying PIAA's and just going for crappy ones, but i mean, they are always until the minute i drop the e-brake, i see lower models with the high beams on only for DTR, is there a way i can fix it so that i can actually turn them on at night with the switch for the headlighs??
thx guys.
thx guys.
yeah my night time driving lights are always on, like the minute i start the car and stuff, i have my corners, my low beams, and all the rear lights, basically during the day, the car lights run as if its in the night.
just turn on your lights? I don't understand why you wanna have all your lights on... but your headlight problem might be related to moisture being in your headlights, have you checked that out yet?
okay maybe you guys aren't reading correctly, or i'm just not explaining it well enough.
okay here we go again.
when you have day time running lights, and you have both a high beam and a low beam bulb, the high beam is the only light that comes on during the day, which is the DTR lights. Now that doesn't happen to my car. the switch in my car to turn on the lights do not work b-cuz, i always have my "NIGHT" time driving lights on. meaning the lights taht you use to drive at night, -> corners and low beams.
my housing is not getting moist, the lightbulb is on alot, i mean alot, b-cuz for example, if i were to drive 100 km, its always on, and i don't mean like 100 km/h, like 50 km/h, the bulb has been basically on for hours, and i have went though alot of those peanut bulbs. so what i'm trying to ask/say is that how can i make my high beam lights come on only during the day, and than liek its suppose to, at night turn on my corners and low beams at night with the switch inside the car.
-> if that doesn't clear it up, i don't know how to make sense of this question.

I didnt even know that there was day time running lights on a 90 si??!!
So then what your saying is that when you turn on your car that the lights automatically come on correct? And that it doesnt matter what selector your headlight switch is on that your lights are always on?? If thats the case I would think that that was some kind of aftermarket add-on someone did to your car so I would have the slightest clue on how to fix it???? To my knowledge there was no such thing as a factory day time running light setup on a 90 Si. If you want to fix it your going to have to try and figure out what wires do what and then try and find the ones that are hooked up to the lowbeams and switch them to the high beams.
Oh and just so you know day time running lights are NOT always your brights. There are some cars that do actually have seperate lights for day time running lights. And there are some cars that the regular low-beams are the day time running lights as well.

viceg yeah i understand, but the DTR lamps are usually a seperate filament causing it not to be as bright as the other filament, its like your brake lamps, they have 2 filaments, 1 stays on and when you hit the brakes, the one comes off and the other comes on with a brighter light.
so ur saying the Si's didn't have that feature? yeah that is correct, the selector position does not work, only way it works is for the high beams only, won't allow the high beams to go on unless selector is on the night position. than i can flick on the high's
i'ma sking b-cuz i've seen, dx and cx and stuff during the day have only the high beams on and nothign else, not even the rears, and i wanted to do that instead, and if the si's didn't do that, than i guess i have to live with it.

No what I am saying is that there isnt any kind of factory thing like that in 90. If the only way that you could turn off your headlights (or night time driving lights) is with the car off either someone added something to make it do that or you could possibly have a short somewhere. See all of my Hondas that were 91's (basically the same thing as the 90) all of them I could control the lights by the headlight and parking light selector and I could have my lights off at night if I wanted too the only way a 90 Honda's lights should come on from the factory would be with the selector not automatically when the car is on and the e-brake down. So I wouldnt know how to fix this or whny its even doing this. Your going to have to go through the wiring to see what is up with it. Because you should be able to turn the lights completely off whenever you want to not just when you shut off your car.
I know what your saying but you need to figure out why you are going through so many bulbs. I have my lights on MOST of the time while I am driving day or night. They have lasted me a long time.
PLUS. I know the Chevy pickups with DTR lights use the same headlight bulbs during the day and night. Its just the rest of the lights that come on.

Mine do the same exact thing...I know that DRL's are supposed to be your highbeams at 30%....but on the 90's for some reason the headlights(lowbeam) come on full at all times. My 89 parts car didn't do it. I thought mine was the only one that did it.
yeah i thought i was the only one as well, so could it be that the 90 and perhaps the Si's only or i dunno what trim level you hvae 90ef, and i don't want to say si's in general and make it an overstatement, but it coudln't be that both of us had our wires patched, they must've came like that on stock
about bulbs going, i'm over exagerating a bit, they'll last about 3-4 months, but i do a heck a lot of long distance travel, i put on about 7 hours per day in total. and that adds up. and not to mention, in the winter time, it was more, b-cuz i remote started my car before i actually went out and drove it, but taht was the corners only though.

canadain model crx/civics got it from 90+...this is how its going to be...you really cant change it unless you want to do a shitload of wiring which is going to suck...leave it alone...
