Default Would disconnecting the O2 sensor cause the speedometer not to function??

After bolting on my GREDDY exhaust, I , anxiously, started my R up and was so open on the growl it produced compared to stock. But after those few seconds of the new tone, I get a CHECK ENGINE light.

We double check everything, diconnect and reconnect the battery hoping it would reset , but no luck, light comes on again.

We run the code, and get a reading that the CAT isn't working, so we check the sensor and we notice a slight splice in one of the wires to the sensor, so we disconnect it, knowing that I'm going to need a new one.

On my drive home I notice the speedo not working, everything else is fine except the speedo.

The wierd thing is that the needle isn't just sitting at 0, it's bouncing up and down in a floating motion, but when I get into a cruising speed it floats between 40-70mph.

So would the faulty O2 cause the speedo not to work???

Should it work after a the sensor is replaced or is it a electrical problem??

Please HELP !!!

you must have bumped the pickup for the speedo on the tranny (or cut the wrong wire). Otherwise your car is screwy

Is this a cat-back exhaust? Or a full system? You should not get a CEL from a cat-back.

Try resetting your ECU (disconnect -ve battery terminal for a few minutes).

It's a cat-back.

And we disconnected and reconnected the batt about 4-5 times and let it sit a couple of minutes each time.

First, which of the 4 wires on the O2 sensor is bare? Let me know what color it corresponds to on the engine harness side of the plug.

Also, what code are you throwing?

Give me some more info so I can try to diagnose your problem.

If I remember correctly it was the black wire(I'll double check it in the morning).

I forgot the specific term that was used, but from we understood, and if the code reading was correct it had to do with the O2 sensor to the CAT.

The code was-2 long blinks,6 short blinks, and 5 quick blinks-

Thanks kenji !

I had the same problem. Its one of the o2 wires shorting on the chasis.
My speedo was bouncing even while standing still. At a light, stopped, the speedo pinned itself at 140 mph. It was cool until I realized that I was clocking miles!!! Clocking miles while standing still .....

Anyway, Acura did a **** poor job installing my exhaust and caused the o2 sensor to rub up against the heat shield, which they should have removed.
The heat sheild cut into the wire.

Just make sure notihng is grounding. Good luck!!

Damnthat would suck. Did the Acura dealer do anything to compensate you for that? How many miles did you end up putting on as a result of that?

300 extra miles that sucks.....

Well everything is still intact in my R, I'm not having problems like you did Nick , except for the speedo.
I checked the fuse also but it wasn't it. So i'm pretty sure that a piece of metal is touching one of the wires somewhere....just got to find where :l
