Could 3rd gear popping out be related to a bent intermediate shaft?

I was calling around, trying to find a tranny. Anyway, I was talking to this one guy, explaning that my car, just starting popping out of third gear one day, for no reason, out of the blue. It wont even stay in. He said that the intermediate shaft could be bent, and that this coul dbe the cause of it popping out. Is there any truth to this? My tranny just started doing this. It had a slight grind, but it went from a tiny grind to flat out not working at all.
probably the 3rd synchro....notorious for this
not sure how the inter. shaft would affect anything....

Thanks for the responses. I didnt think that the intermediate shaft had anything to do with it. I think it was someone as PasswordJDM who told me that. Thanks though.
