Default Heat Shield and T1R exhaust

i just got the exhaust installed and it is rattling on the rear heatshield like a shaker full of rocks. the heatshield is the rear one right before the muffler.

the section of the exhaust that is hitting on the heatshield is the section after the b-pipe and before the muffler section....so i guess the a-pipe. i have tried everything, but to no avail.

you cant really bend the heatshield anymore because there is no more room to bend. it is right underneath the spare tire section of the undercarriage.

there is alos a brake line that runs underneath, or should i say runs on top of the heatshield. i think it might be the E-brake cable or it alos could be the brake cable, not too sure, i didnt really get a good look at it.

but anyway, the rattle is so loud, you cant hear anything inside the car. i am thinking of cutting that section of the heatshield off, but im just worried about that brake line or whatever it is. i dont want the heat of the exhaust to saturate the line and maybe weaken it...if it is infact a brake line then that might be pretty bad....

can any one give me any suggestions of what to do? i was thinking if i did cut that section of the heatshield off, i could possible wrap the section of exhaust tube with therma wrap or something so the heat would not penetrate too far out.

thanks all. when this is all done i will post pics. oh and the exhaust is straight so thats good at least....

Before you cut anything, take out the rattling portions of the heatshield and using a mallot flatten the heatshield by hitting it on the inside using the cement to back the shield. After you flatten it out, keeping in mind you need to maintain the same shape, it should not rattle. My T1R rattled as well, but I removed the cat heatshield and I hammered the **** out of the rest of them. It rattles no more.

i dont think that will work. the part that is hitting the exhaust is the part of the heatshield that is indented out due to the strap that is used to support the spare tire well. if you know what i mean, but i will give it a try.

Mine was doing the same thing. I readjusted the resonator to s-pipe flange and bent the heatshield a bit. I didn't take it off; I just bent the sides out and that kind of pushed the top in. I know what protrusion you're talking about.

Any silencer issues? I still can't take mine out...

i just taled to ferrell and he has the same exact problme at the same location. he said that he tried pounding on the heatshield and the rattle only subsided for a day and came back. can anyone else chime in on this??

if not i think i am just gonna cut the biatch off....

spoonEK2: i didnt have any problems with my silencer. see if there are any weld marks around the silencer. you might just be wasting your time and NRG if there are weld marks....because you cannot pull it off if there is. if not try a penatrating oil like this

you can get it at any pepboys type of store. spray it in and pull with a pair of vise grips.

Are you talking about the gas tank (straps)? Be careful. Don't join the we-todd-did-racing club.

Liquid wrench is my best friend.

If your REALLY desperate take off the whole axle back and try to remove it while it's off the car.

Baby powder in the exhaust might do the trick. Either that or find a deserted road and vtec the bitch in first with no locking nut and see if it flies out.

Don't even bother using the "butt plug". It chokes the exhaust, and negates the gains..
