Genuine honda (brake / coolant / tranny) fluids or will the performance brands be fine?

I've heard that hondas are the only manufacture that really need to have OEM fluids. Is this true? My father claims Dot3 brake fluid is all the same and good enough for our hondas.
Just would like to see if there are some real facts on this anywhere!
Thanks!
PS <> I've got to add all the fluids to my swap, so that's why I ask

Honda MTF for sure.
Any anti-freeze is okay IMO (with distilled water), but lots of people say certain brands are better.
Any DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid will work. I recommned Valvoline Synthetic for a nice, inexpensive choice. ~$3 a bottle at AutoZone. I auto-x with it twice a month and my pedal feel is consistent. You probably won't even be able to tell on the street.
For engine oil, any name-brand will work the same. Just don't buy something you've never heard of basically. And change befor 3000 miles to keep your engine going forever (sooner if you are in higher RPMs often).

So just because you've never used it... that means that it performes = to the other brands? I think the guy was asking if anyone had any data comparing OEM to aftermarket.
Thats great you think its a waste, I think alot of OEM honda stuff is a total waste, but just saying F that, Ive done a bunch of swaps.... I know more then you guys and I feel that it doesnt do anything... that doesnt help anyone.
(thats the message I got from your post.

buy what you like and what you can afford. If I have the money it's honda mtf, if I have the bling it's redline and so on. I've driving 60,000 miles on 10w30 oil in my tranny and no problems, then I switched to honda mtf for another 60,000 miles and still no problems. Now I'm on redline mtl 10,000+ miles and it drives like the way it was on the first day I bought the car. it's based on personal perferences. just my .02
The one thing where it makes a real difference is power steering fluid. If not Honda brand, you GOTTA make sure it says FOR HONDA on there, somewhere.
I've heard different things about anti-freeze, but one thing is DexCool isn't gonna be good for 5 years like they say; unless it's in a car that was designed for DexCool in the first place. Otherwise it's just your normal 2-year intervals...

I say avoid Dexcool anti-freeze.
and use Honda MTF only.
Motor oil? pretty much anything. I would go for a synthetic. weight depends on your climate.
brake fluid? Just make sure it's compatible with your system. Some DOT4s don't work with ABS (they will foam up). In general, just try to get the highest DOT rating you can.

I just changed my MTF from motor oil to Honda MTF and I would swear there is a difference. I only had about 1000 miles on the motor oil, but the tranny feels smoother now when shifting. Before it was a little "notchy" when shifting. Nothing bad or anything. With the Honda MTF the shift is smooth and silky.
