I have a question between recommended and preferred. The Honda Accord 2003 manual says that P/S, ATF, and brake fluid are preferred. The only recommended fluid is the engine oil. IMHO I think it is silly that Honda says that only use non-Honda as a temporary. Why cannot they say all is recommended or mandatory? The 2003 MDX manual ATF, PSF, brake fluid again is preferred not mandatory. Only motor oil is recommend. IMHO, the wording is confusing.Why does Honda/ Acura do this s--t, ? Please comment. to sell more of their Genuine fluid? IDK, naturally they are going to promote the use of their fluids. Though I do remember reading that you should only use Honda P/S fluid, dont recall the exact reason though.

I have only used Honda fluid for the P/S, tranny and coolant. For engine oil, I generally use Honda as well but there are plenty of other options for oil that will work just fine if not better. For brake fluid though, just get a good DOT3 or DOT4 fluid, no need for Genuine Honda fluid there.

 

atf= Honda only
mtf= whatever
brake fluid= whatever
ps= Honda or make for honda
coolant = whatever
oil = whatever
