So for You SOHC VTEC People, a Few Questions - I Already Searched!
Well as a few of you might know I'm in the process of a hellafied D16A6 motor with a fully built D16A6 non-VTEC head.
If you want all of the gory details check the link here:

But now my question for you D16Z6 and/or D16Y8 guys *if* I want to run the D16Z6 head that i have sitting here at the shop after I run the non-VTEC head:
What ECU are you guys running?
What distributor?
What wiring harness/changes to wiring were performed?
I'm looking for something that would run the motor as it should, so things like a VTEC toggle switch or even an RPM-activated switch aren't really what I'm looking for.
I've heard of a Zdyne ECU conversion or something like that.
Can anyone give me some useful info on how to properly run an OBD1 D16Z6 head/motor in a 1988-1991 Civic that is already pre-OBD?
Thanks in advance!

I'm running the a6 distributor you just have to slot the holes with a diegrinder or use a sazall. I have all 3bolts on with big washers and no problems I've run that dizzy HARD mounted like that at the track and its still going strong. And I can get full timing either way. This video is with my z6 motor and if the dizzy was going to go bad it would have a while back

I run the 89 PG7 (89 integra) ecu with a feilds vtec controller or a hyperducktuning chipped PM7
all the wiring plugged right up as I have a 89 std model civic and I had converted it to mpfi a while back to run my zc motor.
except for the collant sensor(or this might be the fan switch I forgot) you have to extend the wires as it is mounted on the thermostat housing not the back of the block.
otherwise its 1 wire for vtec to what ever you are using to activate it...say a feilds
If you decide to run a first gen b16a ecu then get it chipped as you won't have to run a 2nd O2 and knock sensor. Then use a fuel computer to play with the chipped maps as it will run rich for a sohc.

it would be cheaper to convert to obd1 than to run the zdyne 1 wire. i have obd1 on my z6, and i've also run obd0 with a rpm switch. feels the exact same, and i even got around the same times from them. the obd1 seems to run better as far as day to day driving.
go with the obd1 if you decide to run the z6 head..

Well, I was running a D16Y8 off of an OBD-I P28 ECU, with the y8 fuel rail/injectors and y8 distributor in my 89 CRX Si.
This guide tells you how to convert to OBD-I: http://www.geocities.com/kurtsi_on/page9.html
I did the conversion in my garage. Ran like a dream. These instructions also apply to a D16Z6.

Does z dyne change fuel and timing maps when vtec activates?

Also have ran with a PR3 but that is getting fixed (bad socket) I'm staying OBD0. If you go OBD1 buy/make a harness, I'm not really about cutting the factory harness and then soldering it then have a cluster fuct
