B18A and B16A
I've been hearing that the B18A block with the B16A head or GSR head is a great combo. Does it take alot of work and money to do this swap? I'm interested in it and need some input.
Thanks
Thanks
I dont wanna come off an *** so don't take it that way. You need to do a whole lot of reading on google, webcrawler, different car forums etc for "lsvtec", and then ask any questions you still have.
1. Yes lsvtec is a nice setup if you build it with proper precautions and don't do a slap together job.
2. dont rev past 7000 if you keep the stock rods, the motor really wasnt meant for 8K + redlines....no oil squirters under the piston, rod to stroke ratio is a little off from whats desireable...but not by far...its a great motor.
3. building one is fairly simple and straightforward. look for how to faq's and have a machine shop do the actuall drilling and tapping for you.
Oh i just read your post again. Does it take a lot of money you ask. It depends is 2000-2500 for just the longblock and all its replcmt. parts after the fat lady has sung worth it to you? Building a motor takes money and lots of it. Its worth it to some.

One other thing, you seem kinda new to automotive tech right now. Do not attempt a swap on your own right now, sure you see lots of people do it and they dont seem much more knowledgeable than you, but trust me lots of people do hack jobs and dont know rhyme or reason for things they're doing.
LSVTEC, make sure you know eho is building the motor, make sure theyre not an idiot and have some eperience.
1.Use head studs.
2.I like the new GE oil filter tap, but havent used it so cant say if its worth or not, but looks good.
3.block girdle, type-r or Z10, doesn't matter, just get one
4.replace all the seals brand new (rear main seal too)
5.Use a new VTEC oil pump
6.Use a new water pump
7.dont use stock internals, build it now, buy pistons and rods.
8.make sure the deck is flat for good head gasket sealing.
thats all I can think of right now
yes, its expensive to do it right, you cna however, throw it together and it will probably last for a while, but will blow up sometime soon.

I got a friend that knows alot about doing swaps and so on... Hes going to help me do everything. I'm just thinking about saving my pennies and getting a B16A. I need something reliable. Just rebuilt the top end when I get it.

I dont remember where I saw it, get the ls/vtec kit (hoses and everything) and have a experienced installer do it for you.....
