Distributor bearing???
Okay, I dunno if any of you guys remember, but I recently had my distributor go out on my !st Gen B16. I got a new *used* one from Hmotorsonline and everything was back to normal.
Well, tonight I'm driving home and I hear this decently loud screaching noise form under the hood, on the passenger side. Kinda sounds like a squeaky belt, but obviously not one, since it's on the passenger side. Anyways, I had just recently changed my tranny fluid so I checked it first, looks fine and is full, no shavings. Upon further inspection, I am almost positive the noise is coming from the distributor bearing. Someone tell me if I'm wrong, or if something else in that area can make this noise. It sounds like metal on metal, or just like a bearing going out.
Anyways, if it is indeed that, what do I do? I still have my old distributor, which still has a good bearing, that wasn't my reason for changing it. Is it possible to change them, or are they pressed on? Also, am I okay to drive this? Thanks in advance.

what is exactly wrong with your old dizzy?
edit:what you can do is just take the coil and ignitor off the new dizzy put them into the old dizzy, and then hook the old dizzy back up and there you go

Hmm I'd like to know this as well. I believe that it is possible to change just the bearing, but I'm not sure. I do know that distributors sound terrible when the bearing goes.

I do have some good news I think. I may have fixed my problem. I took the cap off when I got home and found massive amounts of dust under the cap and all over the rotor. being that I have to drive my car daily, I had to figure out something. Luckily, I've got a good friend I was with at the time who was big into racing RC cars a few years back and he's got all kinds of electrical cleaners, grease, etc.
I used some "electrical parts and bearing" cleaner to clean up all the dust. Then I used some kind of super lube for bearings he had and sprayed it directly onto the bearing, which is right behind the gear. It immediatly quieted down and stayed that way all the way home which is around 10 miles. He says this lube is some kind of crazy crap good to like 100k RPMs or something insane like that. All I can say is so far so good.
I am gonna look into getting my old distributor rebuilt though, just in case this "wonder lube" doesn't work forever. I'll keep you guys posted if anything changes or it messes up. I'd still like to knw if the bearing can be changed though..
