Default B16 trans popping out of 5th gear.

Its been happening for the past two days now. Traveling at highway speeds in fifth gear, it just pops the gear out to neutral. Sometimes right away, other times it takes a little bit longer. Anyone have any idea as to what I should look at?
Its a first gen b16a with an s1 tranny...
Thanks,
Julian

Your out of tranny fluid. I had the same problem about 3 months ago. I thought my tranny was going out but low and behold I was just out of fluid. I've got a b16 with an s1 tranny as well, so I know what you're talking about, take the drain plug off our transmission and see if anything comes out. If it just trickles out fill it up, if nothing comes out ( bone dry in my case ) definitely fill it up. Try not and drive it till you get that done, you could lock up your transmission and then have to replace it.

Just like ZERO COOL said. The same thing happened to my brothers car. The drain bolt was loose and was causing the fluid to drip out. There was only about 1/4 of fluid in there. I drained it, and replaced it with Honda MTF. Worked like a charm.

I used MTF once and it still slipped out at times. I read somewhere that for g4 civs teh best oil to use is conventional motor oil. Threw in some 10w30 castrol and all was solved.

My trans was popping out of 5th. When I got under to check it some one messed around under there and took out my drain plug. I only had the car for two weeks. So I put honda gear oil and now it only grinds third, but it stays in 5th.

He was talking to Oval, In response to his refilling the tranny and developing a third gear grind... So grinds= Bad syncros, And popping out of gear= Low fluid. Damn, I thought I needed to rebuild my tranny. Does the low fluid level apply when it only pops out when you let off the throttle, Say in 2nd gear? Or would that be another problem?
