Motec ECU
Does anyone have a Motec ECU in their R? I was under the impression that they produce the best computers but Hondata is so common for our cars. Is there a difference? Does the Hondata actually better the Motec in our cars?
Motec as in Fast and Furious Motec? I sure hope not..
No such junk if it is.
No such junk if it is.
here's a link http://www.motec.com/
if you have the money and you actually do competition racing, such as speed vision or anything of that sort. i would suggest this. but otherwise, why bother.
you should get the lamda option with it aswell

The reason I did not go with a Motec system is due to the fact that they require all new sensors.

that's why... well, if you're racing for money. it is well worth it. otherwise. there's really no point to have such advance technology on club racing car.
I prefer the Autronic, which is the main reason for foregoing the Motec.
what i mean is...
(oh yippie, i'm just a weekend racer. but **** i need to have the best to beat all the other club racers???) something like that... you know, why waste that much money in club racing? i don't get it... you're getting really nothing in return. you can have as much fun with out spending so much money.
EDIT: in no way, am i directing this comment to anybody. i just wanted to paint a picture so you can see what i meant.

If you plan to build up your car extreme, i'd recommend buying a motec. By extreme, I mean high compression, high rev, big cam, big injector, and itbs. Anything less, and you're probably wasting your money. The one exception is if you're interest is in engine tuning, and you enjoy figuring out how exactly everything works.
Capability wise, the motec absolutely blows the hondata out of the water, and for the price it should. I haven't used hondata, but i have tuned speed pro bank to bank, autronic SMC, and motec m4 pro. I like the motec the best. It runs the motor the smoothest, and has the most features. I will say that the motec is not for beginners. Of the three ECU's, it's the hardest to setup and the software is the most difficult to use.
What you got to know about all the types of engine management is that they will all produce about the same amount of maxium power provided that your tuner knows what he's doing. The difference between the systems lies in ease of use (amount of dyno time, setup, ect.) and drivability (part throttle, off throttle, gas mileage, throttle response, and idle quality).
If you're going to run itb's go with a motec or autronic, and you can't go wrong. The drivability and power is excellent. If you're staying with the stock style intake manifold, hondata will do just fine. You'll be missing some bells and whistles such as traction control, individual cylinder tuning, turbo wastegate control, anti-lag, ect, but overall it will do pretty much the same thing.
Just be prepared to burn chips with the hondata, and/or be tied down to your tuner if you don't spend the money on the programming hardware. Also, don't expect to learn much if all you do is purchase the base hondata, and have no hands on access to the programming equipment.
