I recently drove a prelude with the sportshift package, and i like the way it shifts, you can shift faster than with a 5 speed, i was wondering what you guys think of the sportshift, and how does it compare with a normal 5 speed manual, performance wise??

keep in mind, its only 4 gears, top speed is lowered, 1 second slower 1/4 times.. shitty transmission, mine broke like 3 months ago.. cost of repair : 2000. i don't mind driving the ss cause i'm too lazy to always shift.. that's just me tho. On top of that, i usually eat/drink when i drive, so its not a big hassle.

really it is what you are looking for. compaired to the 5-speed.....yeah look at the post above. only 4 gears, doesnt launch as good, etc. If you dont want to shift all the time go for it. Do a search though, alot of threads about the ss tranny breaking on here, you might want to look into it.

trust me.. if you want performace in a Prelude DO NOT settle for an auto SS unless you are REAAALLLYYY willing to spend a sh#t load of (wasted)money...I would know. I've spent over $2000 on performance and I'm going to be running high 15's, when I could be running mid-high 14's with a 5 spd. But if it's just for looks and your not really a speed freak, then the SS is for you.
I want a 5spd so bad

prelude is a sportscar and is meant to be a 5-speed (even though i have the SS). trust me, get the 5 speed and you will much happier

 

My friend use to have a SS lude. We would "race" all the time and he had NO chance aginst me. i would smack him off the line and just keep pulling until i decided he had enough.
And besides what everoe else said about the reliability of the SS is less than steller...
Get the 5spd. you will be MUCH happier.
