What kind of radiator fluid are you using?
Nah, he's talking about the additives in certain anti-freezes...phosphates or something, I don't remember. *EDIT* But it is also true that tap water will eat seals and cause corrosion as well.
That's why I use Honda Type 2 - it's already mixed for you so you don't have to go and get a bunch of distilled water. However, I am debating adding a bit of distilled water to the pre-mix, since water has better heat-removing properties than the antifreeze itself.
It's not that expensive and I bought 2 gallons at my local
dealer.

Im using home filtered water. We had some guy check our water and it turns out that we have less particles in our water than most distilled water. I am getting ready to replace the radiator anyway. Im thinking when I get the new one I will run water and "water weter" or whatever its called. So nice to live in florida.

Thats why I bought Water Wetter

So if we don't buy 50/50 mix, where should we get the water from ? I used tap water before and now I'm worried. My new engine only has about 8,000 miles. And I was plaining on flushing the system soon, you think corrison already started ?
Chill out, no reason to **** a brick over tap water----The best thing for the system is Prestone 50/50(demineralized already), and 3/4 of a bottle of water wetter. That is for a street car anyways. With this combo my fans never come on even after beating the **** out of it. The needle is also significantly angled more towards the"cold" mark. Dont forget to bleed!

I'm running a 50/50 mix of Dexcool and distilled water. I should also note that when buying water, 'purified water' is basically the same thing as distilled water.
I use the green ****
is it true that there are only three plants in the US that produce anti-freeze, thus making buying brand names really just buying the name?

I only use genuine honda. Ryan
I see all these people using the 50/50 premix stuff and the thing you dont realize is that when you flush your system your not getting all of the water out so if you put in 50/50 its not going to be 50/50 anymore since there is quite a bit of water left in your system. If your going to use the 50/50 I would make sure that you have a test kit on hand to test it after your done oh and it may be a good idea to have a bottle of straight up antifreeze so that if its not to where you want it you can add in more antifreeze.

I think Im gonna do that. I'll probably get it when I go to the dealer to get some tranny fluid. How much is it gonna cost me?

But the guy that fills up his **** with a hose is a fool. Take better care of your car.

It doesn't matter if it's not EXACTLY 50/50. I nfact, I would suggest that for performance, you use more like a 40/60 or 30/70 water to antifreeze

</U> Cause there would be not a chance in hell that you could add predeluted antifeeze to water and then get a mixture that would be higher in antifreeze
Oh and here are a fews numbers to through at you a 91 CRX Si holds 5.8 quarts of coolant so if you have a system with water in it (as much run out as possible) you still wouldnt be adding much antifreeze to it considering how much would still be in the block or in the heater core. A 50/50 mixture gives you -34deg. F freeze protection and a +265deg. F boilover with say a 70/30 (more antifreeze than water) that jumps up to (or down to) -84deg F freeze protection and up to +276 boilover protection.
Okay, someone explain this to me. I know that antifreeze is called antifreeze because it freezes at a lower temperature than water does.
However, doesn't antifreeze boil before water? So wouldn't having a mix with more water than antifreeze (like 60% water, 40% antifreeze) evacuate more heat out of the system and therefore make your car run cooler? And be better for performance?
Obviously if you run like the 60% water/40% a-f mix your car could freeze over easier *IF* temps get that low in your area.
Please set me straight on this, guys. I was thinking about adding some distilled water to my 50/50 premix from Honda to make the car run a bit cooler.
*EDIT* according to the post above, the boiling point of antifreeze seems to be way higher than that of water. Doesn't water boil at 212? Been a long time since I had a science class.
