Coolant transfers energy (heat) better than just water, has a higher boiling point, and prevents corrosion.

Water is cheap, corrodes, and doesn't work that well.

If just using water, use water wetter. But that still isn't good for the engine.

Use half coolant/half water mixture when filling the radiator.

Thou shalt not use Honda antifreeze in vain.

Um? Are you sure about that B? I have always been under the impression that Water is a much better coolant then antifreeze.. I mean, look at the chart on the redline Water Wetter bottle.. The antifreeze/coolant is used to keep your motor from freezing but will also help it from boiling... But water disperces the heat and can absorb more heat then the coolant can.. I

Run a 70%water, 30% coolant mix with water wetter and havn't had a problem with freezing yet..

More water, the better.. If you just put coolant in your car, its gonna overheat if pushed hard....

Default Coolant

And the correct answer is--You need anti-freeze in the engine to do 2 things. Keep the thing from overheating and to protect the internal passages from corrosion. Corrosion takes place on any metal surface and most particularly on aluminum. The "coolant" flows not only in the block and head but also in the heater core.
For those that think plain water works in street machines of current vintage-forget it. Only race cars are set up this way and they are not used like your daily driver. The factory recommendation for most automakers is to have a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. This will promote the proper cooling, corrosion protection and prevent boilover for most driving situations. Once upon a time those driving thru Death Vally, Ca. would have near 100% coolant to virtually eliminate the chance for boilover.
As to brands-that is a choice thing. I have used Prestone and Peak over the years and can say they are very good products.
