my GF just got a Civic Dx .. Theres a pretty big leak when it rains comming from somewhere in the trunk. There is water in the drivers side Rear taillight. I looked last weekend at everything but didnt notice where the water could get in from. If i just go to a junk yard and get a new taillight will that solve my problems? or does anyone know where to look? any help is appriciated.

 

As a past owner of a G4 Civic, there are two body problems I had. The water leak in the trunk and water in the tail lights.

First, I don't think they are related, but I have to beleive they are because it has to do with drainage. To save the story:

The rust must happen because the water does not flow down the gutters well where the trunk lid and the body meets. My spot was mid way on the right side. The solution would be to just keep the place clean and add some WD40 to grease it. I think it's the rubber seal and body problem.

From where that spot is the water than flow right down to where the rear light housing is. Not sure how the water get in, but one time I had enough water to keep a small fish alive. Solution: Take the light housing out. Drill a few large holes on the bottom of the light housing for each light compartment (3 - I think). The water will drain out in the future. If you got this problem, you need to fix it. Other wise, you blow out your light bulbs, and maybe short some electrical stuff too.

 

Yea, I have a '91 EX (4 door) and had that prob so I used some silicone aquarium sealer and sealed the top of the light all the way across to keep water from getting in there, which worked well too...
