which axle seals?
ok i have a 91 Si. last year when i pulled the tranny i put in new axle seals. i put every thing back to gether and filled the tranny with oil. then there was a HUGE leak so i pulled the driverside axle back out and i realized the hole in the seal for the axle to go in was a lot bigger. so i didn't have time to get a new seal so i put the old one back in. this weekend i'll be pulling the tranny again for a new clutch and i am wonder what size seal to get. the passenger side is fine. i just don't know about the driver side. i bought my seals new from Honda too. on Majestic honda they have the driver side seal listed as 40x62x8.
I just did my seals. First I went and got Honda seals from the dealer---the guy was a complete tool and ordered the wrong ones so thet wouldnt fit. Then I went and got Federal Mogul brand seals. They are ribbed and seal great. Get those If u didnt already get something else.
where can i purchase the federal mogul seals? Napa? also how far do put them into the tranny? i remember the first time i put them in they hit the diff and i had to pry them back out a little. should the outter ring of the seal be flush with the housing?
Thx
Thx
That brand is available at most independently owned auto parts stores. You will know when it is in there right, and yes push it in till the whole seal sits flat on the trans. The key is to make sure you get that spring ring on the inside of the seal to snap onto the differential .HTH
