B18C5 Compression
I just bought a CRX with an ITR engine transplant. Before I bought it, I had a compression test done. Through all cylinders it was around 8 I think. I was expecting higher. Any theories. Engine feels strong and pulls really good and emissions passed without a Cat.

LOL, either your doing it wrong or you had a major typo

I think the compression test was done wrong - and it did pass emissions without a cat. Weird. Thought for sure it would fail, but it scraped by. I have all the papers for the motor - only 60K on it. Took it to the track last year and pull 14s. For a first time at the track I was happy with that. Couldn't keep the wheels from spinning in first. So I don't think there's anything wrong with the motor. I just thought that maybe the pistons might have been changed for a turbo build up that never happened. It's going back on the road soon and I'll get it redone.
Yeah man. I mean not to flame but 14's? I just watched a 92-95 HB with a B18C1 (USDM GSR) swap with intake only run 13.9 on the motor and 13.1 on a 60shot earlier today. Not to bad for for stock exhaust manifold, stock cat and crappy stock civic exhaust. Your CRX should run mid 13's on the motor with bolt-ons and a half way decent launch. Hell I watched a stock ITR run 13's with AEM/open JDM 4-1 and no P/S or A/C belts on.
No, you're totally right. I should be in the 13s but I can assure you it's all driver - put my autocross tires on thinking I'd get a better launch but if you saw my slips you'd see how wrong I was. Did hit 98mph though. I have a GSR tranny with long gear ratios better suited for autocross and unfortunately no LSD - so launches are never going to be great. I only did the 1/4 to see what all the fuss what about. Requires a lot more skill then I gave them quarter mile guys credit for - but I think I'll stick to the twisties.
I just needed to know what the right compression needs to be so when I get it retested I have something to compare it to and if there's a rational reason for the compression to be low across all cylinders. From the looks of it from your posts it seems to me the test was wrong. Thanks.
Do the compression test again.
Remove the spark plugs and hold the throttle open while you crank.
Last time I did it I got 250'ish on all four.
It also depends on engine temperature, if you do it on a cold engine it will give lower numbers.
