Default Calling the high horsepower guys... ->traction related

Everyone and their mother wants 400+whp lately, but not a lot of guys talk about the suspension aspect of everything. We know traction sucks when you have a fully blown turbo motor. So could you guys please list tires, axles, suspension set-ups, traction bars, and other things that you use and how benificial they have been to putting the power down to the ground for you guys. Also include some time slips. Thanks.

skunk2 coilovers
skunk2 rear drag springs
kyb agx(i heard koni adjustables might work a bit better)
BFG g-force drag radials.

next up is jim fab traction bars, LSD, and ES motor mounts.

mines pretty simple, and works real real well on the streets, even without LSD ( ). I think it's success is pretty much thanks to the tires.
Sure they don't last too long, but man can those things hook up.

You want to know the setup for the track or for the street?

track basically...

as of now i have:

tokico 5 ways
ground controls
dc sports front upper, rear lower struts
energy susp motor mounts
quaife lsd
micky t slicks, 22's

im looking into the z10 traction bars, i believe the prelude ones will be in production soon. i also plan on running 26" slicks in the near future.

The car is a street car so gutting the interior and running 12pt monkey bars isnt going to be an option. I would like for my prelude to hit 11's, but im afraid the weight and traction problems are going to be the biggest hurdles for me to overcome...

Well, the main things are good tires (bfg's), a quaife, and some "traction bars". I'm using tein type flex coilovers. These are able to limit the amount of "lift" on the front end on launch. The main thing, often overlooked, is gear based boost control. You're absolutely right, you're not gonna hook with 400hp in 1st gear on the street. You gotta turn it down and bring it on gradually...

Tony, so what do you recommend <spelling? for controlling boost so you can gradually increase the amount of boost as desired? Apex avcr? or blitz boost controller? Please some info would be nice.

i have greddy profec b, just keep it on low boost in first, then in second i switch to high. you get good at it. but that steering wheel high/low button seems like it would help a lot.

The avc-r, while sometimes being a pain to setup, is probably the best boost controller i've seen for a street car. Innovative has one as well, but i think it's more versed towards race cars.

that's right the avc-r is great for "bleeding in the boost"

I run on the street at 500+ whp
quaife
255/50/16 Bf's
Skunk drag launch springs
KYB agx shocks
Innovative boost controller( havent tested it yet though)

to be honest the car has to be run from a 45mph roll for traction.

I'm currently running the following on the street:

Toyo T1S Tires
ITR LSD (as long as it doesnt explode until June I will be happy)
Skunk2 Coilovers and Tokico Blues (ghetto but seems to work)
ES Motor Mount Inserts
Stock Axles

Making approx. 330 whp on the street is retarded and really only allows for traction from mid second gear when warm out, and mid third gear when the roads are really cold. I can't wait for some tuning time later this spring...

By the time I hit the track I will have the following:

Lenso 13x8 w/ 24x8.5" slicks
8pt Roll Cage
And hopefully some beefy axles... if not, at least a set or two of stockers in the trailer at any given time.

My new suspension setup consists of:

91 CRX

- 89 Accord Front Koni's. An 1" shorter shock body stock.
- 91 CRX rear Koni yellow's
- skunk2 coilovers
- sustech bars.
- JimFab crossmember/tractionbars
- Rear ingalls camber kit.
- 205/15 Azenis...I love em.
camber came out to -1.5deg all around.

The motor I am currently building will use a Quaife diff.
