Default SOHC guys: intake mani's for boosted applications

how come no love for the sohcs when it comes to intake mani's? i see alot more sohcs going boosted these days too and i've been waitin for these things forever. i kno skunk is *supposedly* releasing one sometime this spring and edelbrock should be coming out with one when they release their new turbo kit. i've seen some cheap ones out but i think it was a focuz brand or something. then i remember recently golden eagle had a post here saying they just came out with them. i haven't seen that post in awhile and i wanted to check if anyone got one, but i couldnt find the post anymore. i did a search in the eg, classified, FI classifieds and forced induction forum for "sohc intake mani" "golden eagle" etc and i have come up with nothing. what happened with those mani's?

hehe oops i finally found the golden eagle post, but still, whats up the other manufacturers? i was thinkin about the y8 mani for my z6, but then i was comtemplating whether or not it would be worth the trouble. i mean, stock, the y8 only makes 2 more hp than the z6 and its not like i see boosted y8 puttin down drastically better numbers than z6. i would say on average they both seem to perform the same.

I am putting a Y8 mani on my built SOHC setup. The plenum is bigger on this mani so it can only help. I too am waiting for the JG or skunk 2 one.

when u get the y8 on, let us know if it is worth it. it would be awesome if you could get dyno #s, but since that's expensive, even g-tech runs would do. the y8 mani does look huge compared to the z6, but i'm wondering if its design will net siginificant gains or just a few hp

Just because the z6 makes 2 less horsepower than the y8 doesn't really say so much about individual parts. They make up for power in different areas. The z6 has a better flowing head (flows better than a ported and polished y8 head, y8 head was designed for emissions), the z6 also supposably has a stronger bottom end, but .2 less compression (actually due to smaller combustion chambers on the y8), the y8 on the other hand has a bigger, better flowing intake manifold, and a better tranny (not due to better gear ratios, but stronger shifter forks made out of forged steel)

I plan on maybe swapping my y8 head for a z6 head and building the y8 block.

This was Skunk2's response to an email I sent them on Friday about when we could expect their manifold.
"it should be out next month sometime. its good both for N/A and forced induction."

I think we have been hearing this for a while now though. Just thought I would let everyone know.

can anyone confirm that

What part do you want confirmed? Mista Bone can confirm most of this. You can also read this recent thread on dseries.org about the y8 vs z6 head http://pub143.ezboard.com/fhondadser...icID=672.topic

If you search on that page some more I guarantee you will find more information on z6 vs. y8 parts. I know I have also seen the topic on the intake manifold and shifter forks there.

Edit: I see you bolded the head flow part. Check that link. Zex Man lost 40hp from stock z6 head to ported y8 head on his 400whp race motor.

Wish I would have known this when I still had my Y7 and did the Y8 headswap. Oh well.

Of course the compression is the least of your worries. Hello machine shop...mill my head a little!
