Default ? For Clutch Guru's

When I got my new OEM clutch installed I noticed the engagement point moved away from the floor in to the last 3rd of the clutch travel. It used to engage in the first 3rd of travel. Meaning I had to release the clutch almost all the way to the top of its movement to engage it. The clutch released pretty smoothly and lets say over about ~2-3" span of travel.

I got the clutch adjusted so that it engages closer to the floor. This developed alot of free play in the clutch when it was resting. I got rid of the slack by adjusting the free play bolt. The clutch now rests closer to the floor.

Now here is what I noticed. The clutch engagement occurs over a much shorter span of travel now. Where as before it was engaged for about 2-3" in the clutch travel, it seems like its only engaged for about 1" of travel now. Its almost like an ON/OFF switch. This makes for some jerky shifts when driving around town. In aggressive driving its nice because I just tap and release.

Does bringing the clutch engagement point closer to the floor affect the length of the engagement interval? Is it a problem sign that my clutch engages almost like a switch?

Thanks

Aamir

all i knoe is that if the piston thing in the master cylinder is adjusted to far in, you will mess things up. Does your master cylinder have any traces of oil one the piston?

first thing i would do is flush/bleed it. is the fluid all nasty? that usually cures most clutch ills.

1st.. im not sure why you would want the engaguement closer to the floor. Most of the time its the opposite.

2nd.. I would say play around more with the "play bolt" From what it sounds like, you do not have to bleed it or anything. My clutch it very touchy like yours, which I like and got used to it. But I have it engagueing at the last part of the lenght.;

In every Honda I've ever driven the engagement has been in the last 3rd of travel... away from the floor. So it's normal... the closer to the floor the greater chance of a misshift if you're shifting quickly.
