Default Should I port/polish intake manifold?

I just sent out my B16 cylinder head out to get ported and polished. Should I also send out my intake manifold and throttle body?

My application is NA.

You don't need to port & polish the manifold per se, but I would make sure that the throttle body and intake mani, are the same size diameter. Also may want to match the ports on the head w/ the manifold.

Good Luck.

no port matching ur IM in many cases actually screws up the air flow, making you lose power...wrong shape and dynamics

Yes and no....

If you dont know what your doing and dont have the proper tools/knowledge then no.

you'll have to wait for the head for port shapes/sizes. If they gasket matched the cylinder head it will be easy. If not Id leave it alone.

Get a die grinder and a non-ferrous bit. Rounded with a slight point. get some aluminum cutting fluid, cross buffs, and a flap wheel. Have fun Just dont go to big and blend the transition further down the runners.

I would depending on the person or shop doing the porting. I am having my IM match ported to my head as we speak. I'll post something about the power gain/losses after installation.
Peace.

generally
you want the tb opening to be slightly smaller than the IM opening
and you want the ports in the manifold smaller than the ports in the head

Would this, by any chance, be for good anti-reversion air flow? I've heard that this is the best way to go.

Wouldn't it be better just to do it right the first time? And port "MATCH" them

Anyone have a good answer on this question? I"m about to send my head out for some mild posrt and polish work to go along with my new valvetrain.

so what is a good "rule of thumb" to go by?
should it be about 1mm or like 2mm?

I have read that port matching is good, removing all the casting remnant crap is good but polishing the intake is bad. This is because the roughness is supposed to create turbulence in the air flow which is supposed to help with fuel/air mixing.

hmmmm. since we have injectors for that.... and portflow polishes the **** out of their heads....why not?

Can you tell me how you packed the head to get shipped out, who you sent it through, and what was the cost? I'm just curious. I'm going to be sending my head to portflow. I would like to ship it, but it might be better to just drive there. There about 5 hours away from me.

If its OK if the IM a bit bigger than the head??

I wouldn't worry about the gasket matching because the gasket on the head matches up pretty good and you are going to want the manifold a little smaller to help reversion like it was stated earlier. In my opinion the area behind the throttle body is were the work is needed, not alot though there are just some sharp edges that I take out and and I think some of the casting flash could be smoothed on the head side of the manifold but I wouldn't say any of this had to be done, I don't think it's worth any power but if you have the money and are crazy about little details like me go for it.

What plenum are you talking about? If you are talking about the stock B16 plenum then you may want to think about picking up another plenum instead of paying someone to do portwork on the stock one depending on how much the person you are thinking of sending it to is going to charge you. It would probably be more benaficial to pick up an aftermarket plenum that has better casting (on the inside) that is not as disruptive when it comes to a smooth air flow through the inside of the plenum. The inside of a stock B16 plenum is quite rough and you would have to do spend a fair amount of money getting it worked on to get decent improvements.
