i just installed a mini-me swap into my 88CRX SI and when i let her warm up the thing starts sspazzin out and the speedometer just melted off ...my gauge cluster starts smoking and the spot where the speedometer needle was starts to glow bright red like its melting ....
WTF???any of you guys have this problem before?

 

Very very odd. No idea on the problem, but if you didn't change anything with the cluster a new cluster would probably fix the problem.

Here's my guess. When you installed the engine, you didn't properly connect the ground strap. The electrical system is trying to ground through the speedometer cable and on through the gauge cluster(which can't handle the load, hence the heat & sparks).

I know I'm REALLY bringing this back from the dead, but some of my friends installed a ZC in an '88 four door, and the throttle cable heated up and melted thru' alot of the casing. They had no clue wtf happened.

 

Just bought a 90 Acura Integra Sedan for 185. The seller said it only needed a fuel pump.
It had a broken ignition switch and they had obviously been using a flat head screwdriver to start it.
I dropped the gas tank n found out the fuel pump was fine. Changed the fuel main relay and installed a salvage ignition with a lot of electrical tape.
I finally got the sucker to start and while I was parked letting the car run then speedometer needle melted off after turning bright red and the milage numbers melted to and then it just stopped glowing. Soon afterwards I replaced the pos. and neg. battery cables it is acting a little better.
The heater blower hasnt worked fuses are blowing left and right and the rpms will surge the car has to driven with one on the break one on the gas to keep it idleing and its eating up gas like crazy and overheating. I would like to fix this car though I call her onyx so anyone have any suggs

i would suggest making your own thread and in the correct forum. this is for ef/crx not integra

 

maybe your flux capacitor malfunctioned?

 

this happened to me on my 88 hf too. make sure to connect all the grounds again lol by the thermostat, radiator, and battery ground by the starter.

Mine just did the same thing yesterday. Can't figure out what the problem is. Car was just sitting there idling in my friends driveway and all the sudden my speedo needle fell off and the cable was glowing red and started to melt my cluster so I turned it off ad tore apart my dash to see if there was a short. Cluster looks good can't find any shorts. Not sure what else the problem is
