Transmission Woes..., Any tranny guys out there?
So i put her in reverse & as i am moving the car stops as if i applied the brakes, but i did'nt! The car comes to a halt all by itself! I notice this strange noise, sorta like a low whine or hum. Now she shifts sluggishly or erratically. BTW this an automatic tranny. The CV Boots are torn, The axels are worn. Any ideas ??? Just 2 days ago i added this stuff called "TransMedic" into the tranny to help lube it & restore it a little. I really would appreciate any ideas at all, much appreciated!
Oh yes! It's an 85' 1.5 Carburated Model CRX...

doesnt really matter what it is thats causing the problem in your tranny because a used one would be cheaper than fixing the one you currently have

i can bet u 10 bucks its the lube thingy u just added....
i had auto trannys before i got manuals... and my brother& dad works on trannys and they teach me that u cant flush and add new oil to a auto tranny.(specially when its kinda old), u can only add to keep it full....
the way auto trannys work , its because it has lil clutches between gears and synchros.... thats waht actually make the car grab and move... with the time and use they get a lil worn out.... the particles that are worn stay on the oil , and those metal and worn pieces stay on the oil and help those litle clutches grab and be rough.... if u flush it, u take all those particles off.... what happens is that u put new oil in clean, and will make those clutches start to slip...thats when improper engagement of gears come, tranny slipping, and other symptoms come along...
this its the only idea i can come up with the description u gave me..... i experience this on my old Nissan with the auto tranny.... and same stuff that u said happened... but i seriouly doubt its ur axles.... thats something completely diff...
I did'nt flush this tranny, i just added that stuff i was talking about then 2 days later this issue. Damn this sucks...
i know on my ford explorer that the trannycase got so full of shavings that it could'nt be changed. the guy said that any change of flow through the tourque converter could bust the shavings off in chunks and destroy the tranny. i assume all autos work on the same basic premise? as stated before it'd be best to change it. might as well go manual while you're in there.
