Default Advice on setup (stereo gurus)

I would like to hear opinions on which setup I should go with.

First of all, I have 2 small amps (35w/2 or 100w/1) and already have a new HU, an EQ, and a good size amp with a 12" sub. My question is, which would be better for the use of the 2 small amps?

1 - Get 2 pair of descent 2-3 way speakers and run 1 amp on each set.

2 - Get 1 good set of component speakers for the front and run one amp to each of those and get some average speakers for the rear (fill) and power them with the HU.

I'm not looking to win any competitions, I just want the best sound quality possible.

Bobby

Uhh would need to know what the two amps are. My 25wX2 is capable of putting out 1000wX1 so it depends.

I would say power front components with the amps and use the HU for rear fill. Personally I would buy a good 4 channel amp, but that's me. If you don't wanna spend any more money then I can understand. I just don't like having amps all over the place... I run a channel... God, I'm rambling....

The 2 small amps are Pioneer GM-X332's. They are descent little amps and are capable of putting out the power they claim.

I don't want to buy anything else from here on but speakers. I took everything out of my old car (except for the speakers) before I sold it. I have pretty good sound in my car right now but since I have all this stuff sitting around and I'm bored, I want to put it all in my new car but I just want to do it right the first time.

That's the reason why I have 3 amps to begin with. I started with just 1 small one and my brother gave me a big one. So I bought a sub.....anyway, what would you do?

Thanks, Bobby

If your amp is 2 ohm stable, you could run front and rear speakers with it. It would sound more balanced that way. Not a great plan to run half from amp and half from HU. The only drawbacks are" the amp would run hotter and you wouldn't be able to fade from front to rear and vice versa.

balanced as in the front and rear play at the same level and same frequency cut off, no indivdual control, no front rear fading, no good for imaging and staging at all, amp runs hotter and in turn has less life, not good for a budget system........and this is a good thing?

My recomendation would be to sell the 2 amps that you have already. Get something like a 5 channel Memphis Belle MC600D (55w X 4 RMS, and 400W X 1 at 1 ohm) Get yourself some great coaxes or some nicer components, and locate them in the stock locations. The 4 channels by 55 are 2 ohm stable, so if you wanted to use some Q logic Qforms, do that along with the Stock locations... Then Grab a DECENT SUB, like a Kicker CVR12 Dual 2 ohm sub. Wire the Voice coils in parallell, and voila! 400 watts, which is close to it's RMS rating. (50 watts over will not kill it, if you reduce the gain) Build that box slightly small for Harder hits, larger for the deep drawn out transients. Your choice, you will have to live with it.

it also depends on how big your car is. for example i have a crx with a 6 1/2" component set built in to custom kickpannels all running on a 4 channel. i have completly eliminated rear speakers which in turn brought my soundstage forward which i happen to like the sound of alot more. if i left rear speakers in, they would be so close to my ears it would ruin the effect all together. but if you have a large car, you might like to have a little rear fill, and if so just power that with your h/u so its not overpowering. hope this helps.

Now how hot exactly would his amp run? Who really knows. Try it and see, I have done it successfully many times. As far as frequency cutoff, why does it need to be different? Ever heard of passive crossovers? Well they aren't expensive? Imaging has to do with speaker palcement not what amp you use. Why don't you suggest something better?
