Default amp question??

I need some advise on amps. Im kind of new to car audio, at the moment of time, im planning to buy an amp (either 2X2channel/1X4 channel) to pair it with my speakers. I know the speakers plays a very big part in the sound quality, just wondering what amps is gd for producing clean sound (eg, non bassy stuff..clarity). What do you think of Alpine/Phoenix Gold/Rockford/MB Quart amps compare to my current JBL amps?? What im trying to find out, is whether i should invest in another amp when i do buy another set of speakers for my car...as im not satisfied with my current setup and also to know which brand shall i be looking for (amps).

Speakers produce more distortion than solid state amps. Just pick an amp that you like, and get some nice speakers. Try to get atleast 50x4.

Arc audio has a 85X4 or alpine has a 45X4, the alpine is cheaper, but decent. Arc is more expensive but you get more power.

Thx for all your replies/suggestions. I will go get a higher power amps to power my new speakers. Will take arc & pioneer into my list of choices. Just wondering, shall i invest more in the speakers, and less on the amp, or vice versa?

you can have the best amp, but if your speakers are shittty, it wont sound right. i have used pioneers, kenwood and sony. there pretty good. i just bought a 98 accord and it has a stock cd player and kenwood speakers. the new speakers really make a difference.

Depends on what you want. I'm pretty satisfied with a set of Polk 6.5"s in the front with a Pioneer amp.

I say just get a "middle" prices set, around $100, and give 'em 50 watts+.

I consider mid priced 200. So you can get some infinity kappas for the front, and something less expensive like references for the rear.

True, but you'll find that there quite a few "decent" speakers around the $100 price range - coaxials, though, not components.

The infinity reference components are around 130-150 I think.

Ok, i get what you all are trying to say...invest in speakers, and match it with an amp that is not to underpower/overpower. Will look into the infinity speakers . I think im more interested in getting component units.

Now as far fitting in different range/brand of speakers for the front & rear, i dont think i want to go that direction, as my current 1s in my car are of 2 different brands, and i could really hear the sound difference from the two . So i think i most prob go with front & rear with the same speakers.

You may want to forgo the rear speakers altogether. Keep the sound stage upfront and your passengers able to hear something other than the rear speakers - unless you like having the sound stage towards the rear.

Personal preference IMO.

Hmm, i thought that if i fit some speakers upfront & at the rear, i would get a better surround sound. Thats why i usually settle for 2 speakers (front) & 2 speakers (rear). Anyway, i will let my installer advise me on how to set the audio stuff up (i will tell him im looking at 4 speaker setup, & will ask him if he would advise me to do just 2 speaker setup)...but i will be choosing the model/brand myself. Thx ppl
