Cam Gears Cover
hey everyone... I got a 93 prelude si (h23) and i was wondering if anyone took off their cam gear cover. If i am not mistaken, the vtech (h22) do not have a cover and the cam gears are just exposed. if i decided to leave the cover off, does it propose any danger, like dust, etc getting in there or is that just a useless cover? Thanks for the help.
The H22 does not have the camgears exposed. They are covered by the Valve cover. Some people cut out the are of the valve cover to expose the cam gears and it causes no problems. Plus, makes it easier to adjust the cam gears if they are adjustable.
You have to cut the valve cover on both H series motors.
I ran for a long *** time with mine cut completely away, and no timing belt cover. No problems yet.
HOWEVER: You always run the risk of something dropping down in there and jamming up a timing gear... then you're fucked.
