how much can stock rods handle??????
I have a turbocharged b18b1 and am going to put 8.5:1 srp pistons in, but i dont have the money for rods so i was wondering how much hp the stock rods can handle. i am going to put arp rod bolts in the stock rods for alittle more strength. also how much boost should i be able to run with the right fuel tuning and that set up?
if i were you, id work some extra hours, make some extra money to buy the rods, they arent that expensive, its a bitch to tear apart the motor if you arent gonna replace both the pistons and rods....
just my opinion though.....
the stock rods will handle 12 psi no problem daily

I would suggest spending a little bit more money and at least have your stcok rods shot peened. That should make them stronger.

stock B series rods will handle over 300WHP.....
But if your gonna have your bottom end opened up and all sorts of work done I would personally reccomend you get a second job for about a month.
Bottom line, it's not that much $ and you will cry like a little girl if they fail

...i have heard over 300hp, it could be wise to temporarily just put pistonsin, cause all you have to do is hone the cylinder walls, and not mess with rod bearings. Machine shops charge alot to mess with bearings and finding someone to do it right(that you can trust) can be a pain in the ***. You should be able install pistons in your garage but not the rods, thus saving yourself alot of labor money!

Wha?
have you ever taken a bottom end apart?

stock rods can hold a good amount of power, but why don't you have new forged rods installed while you're at it, which is overall better for the long run.
