When i try to start my car it makes a rapid clicking sound why wont it start
when i try to start my car it makes a rapid clicking sound i have door locks that lock when the car starts could it be because of them. but when i pop the hood and move the spark plug wires a little bit it will start can anyone please please help me out.
try testing your battery. The starter might not be getting enough power from the battery to start the car. Jump it with a booster or with another car.
If it still does the same thing when you boost it with another car then try tapping on the starter solenoid with a ratchet while someone tries to crank it over. If that doesen't work then you'll probably need a new starter. Same thing happened to my friends civic and ended up being a shot solenoid. Picked up a new starter and it started right up.

move the terminals on your battery around a little. probably just corroded a bit. If you don't like having to do that every time your car won't start go to the autoparts store and get a battery terminal wire brush and take off your battery cables and clean both the terminals and the cable ends, then put them back on and tighten them down good. That should solve your problem.
BTW guys, if the battery is "dead" (ie, has no charge) then you will NOT hear a clicking sound, you will get nothing. The clicking sound is actually a spark arcing from the ground or positive on the battery terminal to the cable end, kinda like when you reconnect the terminals you get a spark sometimes. The spark is the electricity arcing from the terminal to the battery cable when it gets just close enough, but not QUITE close enough to be completely touching. Corrosion makes the connection "just close enough, but not quite" so that the terminal arcs and you hear clicking and no starter.

I glanced through the fix's. I would include checking the cables to the starter. Use a steel wire brush and you can also use baking powder mixed with water to neutrilize the acid build-up although doing this creates a little mess.
i had this happen to me about a month back. it happened because i ran my battery too low. that clicking you hear is the main relay next to the fuse box. i clutch started my car, drove around for a while to charge my battery, and everything was fine.
