ok i was drivin my car the other day - and i went and nailed it went to about 8k the check engine light came on so i was like hmm....-VTEC still came on when i hit it again cause i have a VAFC but when i cut the car off the and cut it back on the cel was gone...my friend said it was an o2 sensor for sure - what do you guys think?

 

Do you have a cat? If you do... it might be ur cat thats bad or it could be what ur friend said, the o2 sensor...

Unless it's a hard failure, shutting down and restarting will reset the CEL, but the trouble code should still be stored in the ECU. The light will remain off until the condition that triggered it before occurs again. Get the code scanned and you can stop guessing what it is/was.

 

Yeah check the ECU code. Only way to tell. Even if you don't have a VFAC vtec will work with a o2 not working or unplugged, or at least on a obd 1 b16 swap.

 

see that where i run into a problem - i have an active OBD2 scanner under the dash but an obd1 ecu - it wont read it i've already tried it - how would i go about check it - wait i know - let me go see what the code it right now....

 

ok i'm gettin these codes - 1, 3, 21
1 is the front o2 sensor - which i dont have a spot for one
3 - is the MAP sensor - but i think mine is working right..how do i check it?
21 is the VTEC sylniod - VTEC still comes on doesnt that mean it works - would all this be due to crappy wiring??

 

If your running a chipped p28 it's only looking for one o2 so the only reason to get a code is for your only o2 to not be working. I'd check your wires on the rest to make sure.
