Got a used accord, having some problems.
Ok my dad moved out of the country and left me his 96 Accord LX. Its automatic and has 138k miles. He said he changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and put in feul injector cleaner.
It's had a small miss, but once warm its hardly noticable. This morning I started her up and its scared me. It started missing like crazy, idling like a damn race car or something. When I put it in gear it gets worse.
Any idea what could be the problem? It's so bad I'm scared to drive it. I drive and hour to work each way so I'm going to park it drive the other ride but anyone have a clue?
Also will the Vtec vresion of this engine drop right in? Use the same tranny? and how much do they usually go for?
Thanks guys.

LX's have an F22b2.. the F22b1 VTEC motor will drop right in. Although... if you're going to do a swap... I would save up and get the DOHC version of Honda's 2.2 (H22A). It has 45 more baseline HP and 15 more lb. ft. of torque not to mention closer gear ratios. Good luck.
Ok here we go.
I just pulled the plugs from the motor and the were covedred with oil. especially #3. When I pulled the wires out there was no oil on them. But when I loosened the plugs and pulled out my wrench, the socket was even cover with oil. Well at least about a 1/4 inch up.
He put in some split fires.......
Don't know if thats the problem but......how does oil get into the plugs?
Thanks
JT
Oh yeah and for the swap, I wouldn't be doing it for the power. This is not my daily driver so thats why I just want something relatively simple and still automatic.
Thanks again

oil in the spark plugs could be your tube seals on your valve cover gasket.
Ok just did a search and saw another had the same problem. So I guess I'm going to do like they told him.
Rplease the valve cover gasket and the spark plug gaskets/gromets.
Sound about right?

JT since you are going to take the head off , you schould really look at the piston rings and make sure they are still good. also look closely at the cylinder wall to make sure the walls are even, smooth, .you can also run your finger nail along the wall and can feel any small groove that may not be visible by the eye. those groves let oil pass the piston ring and into the top of the piston, oil will get on the plugs. If oil is getting into the conbustion chamber the oil should be getting burnd up alittle and you should have a blue-grey-white smoke coming out the tail pipe. ...........good luck make sure you get a new head gasket and clean off the old one off the head reallyy good before you but it all back together.
