Default H22a, Vtec does not engage

Ok, the h22a is in a 4th gen accord and it was working brilliantly for over a year now. The vtec no longer engages. Just suddenly happened too. I have changed the vtec solenoid, the ecu, checked wiring and it does not seem to work. What else could be wrong, help!

Its a stock h22a except for a catback. Stock airbox and headers. The new solenoid was a second hand item but it made the clicking when wired up and the rubber was in good condition so i left it at that. The ecu does not throw any codes except when i unplug the thing. The screen seemed okay too. Someone said about there being a filter somewhere for the vtec system. Could this be the case, and where abouts is it located. Thanks

Check your oil levels... not enough oil, VTEC will not engage...

connect a globe to your vtec pin at your ECU and see if the light switches on when you hit vtec... ... if it goes on then your electrical should be fine... but if you cant hear the vtec engage, most likely a mechanical failure

yeah, that.
and also, is it AT or MT? Automatic tranny fluid level also affects it if it's AT.

if all of that is ok, then it's narrowed down to 2 things.
the VTEC mechanism itself, or the ECU.

if you can get your hands on a knowingly good ecu that's the same as yours, swap it into your car and see if that cures it.

if it's not that then it has to do with the mechanical part of it. i know in the F series motors, there are four pistons that could be bad (all of which are oil pressure controlled), should be the same for the H series. timing piston, synchronizing pistonA, synchronizing pistonB, and the stopper piston.

It can also be a faulty Knock sensor. It happened to me.
