H22A No VTEC - Searched and did much testing look inside
Just got done with my swap, had no exhaust, vtec was working fine.
Yesterday: Woke up to a code 21 for VTEC Solenoid.
- Checked the plug and the waterproof piece inside had come loose, took this piece out and vtec worked fine.
Today: Got my exhaust put on and now either VTEC is absolutly silent (I have a intake) and adds no power or its no longer engaging.
- Took off the VTEC solenoid and cleaned out the already clean screen.
- Manually hooked up 12 volts to the solenoid and heard it loudly click.
- Measured the voltage at the pin on the ECU and when VTEC is supposed to engage I get a full 13 volts.
- Cut off the connector at the solenoid and soldered the connection.
After all of this I still do not hear VTEC engaging. I run a custom P28 on uberdata, VTEC comes on regardless of speed, temp, and oil pressure. WTF is going on?

The grounding is fine, I ran another ground wire directly to it and that didn't help. I also tested the solenoid on the car by supplying it 12v and you can hear it click so it must be grounded fine.
I did run on the stock ecu yesterday and it doesn't sound much different, I'm starting to think its just not as loud as I thought it was going to be. With my P28 tune I think it's even softer because the VTEC transition is tuned correctly.

Well maybe the solenoid is working but not 100%, did you consider trying another solenoid? Remember most solenoid switches consist of a field coil which if is not functioning properly can cause resistance changes and maybe your ECU thinks the solenoid is shorting out or something...
Something to think about or try ...

Re: (fastwanabe)
I'm sure it's working now, there just isn't as dramatic of a difference in tone as there was when there was no exhaust. It's nearly inaudible, but that's probably because it's a very clean crossover.
