Default clutch cable adjustment

ok I ntoiced when i turn my clutch cable adjustment(adj bolt near trans) nut to the right it makes my clutch have more "feel" but my cars grinds in 2nd(when shifting fast or racing)..if i loosen the nut I have like no clutch feel..like about 5mm after i lift the clutch pedal it starts to engage and its reallytouch and its all the way engaged and i have like 2'' of free pedal (im too lazy to adjust the clutch pedal bolt) anyways odd as this is my car doesnt grind from shifting frorm 1st to 2nd..should i leave it like this? Is it bad for the clutch? The clutch seems to open all the way since it doesnt engage right away

The freeplay at the top of the pedal should be approximately 1". More than that and it engages close to the floor. To little and the clutch may slip. Counter clockwise rotation (viewed from above) of the adjusting nut will increase freeplay and clockwise will decrease the freeplay.

For me, I like to have to hood up, so you can look at the cable while checking the "freeplay" of the pedal. So that way you know that you have a little freeplay before the cable moves. Too much freeplay and the disc will drag, not enough and it will slip.
