Default Guys with B16 in a CRX dx...I have Q's

Hey i'm going to get a B16 in the very near future. I
was thinking of getting a engine from a mail order
place and then have it installed in a shop near my
house. But when i told the shop that, they said that I
need to also bring them some hubs, and spindles from
an integra or the 99Si. Is this needed to swap the SIR1
into a 89CRX dx? They said that i need to get those or
it won't work. But then i called the engine place and
they said that the engine should work just like its
sent. Any info would really be apprecited.
Also Jotech quoted me almost 5,000 for the complete
swap including the a/c bracket, a DC 4-2-1 header, and
a AEM Short Ram intake, plus labor and everthing
included. Is this what i should expect to get this
engine in my CRX?? Just sounds kinda high to me??

Yes....that sounds high. Check out the hybrid page to see what you need exactly. It depends on what the engine supplier sends you as compared to what you actually need. The quick list is, engine/tranny/ecu/axles/shift linkage/and aftermarket motor mounts from a place like HASport. You might also want to consider a wiring harness??? but I am not an expert, and since you are paying a shop to install it, they may have their own wiring ideas.
here is the hybrid link - hope it is helpful - it lists the most common swaps into 4g civics - the b16 I think is the 4th link - http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/4gtech.html
Good Luck with your swap - wish I had the cash for a b16.

So what about the spindles and hubs?? Do I need these
for my swap? Does anyone know?? Oh, and yes i'm aware of
the mounting kit and the wire harness. Also can anyone
tell me what they paid for their B16 swap..

Hey

I dont mean to be a jerk, but Jotech is the most expensive place in Dallas, a guy I work with paid them $5500 for his GSR swap into a Civic, of course he doesnt need the mount kit like you though..All the parts for the B16A swap will run you about 2000-2200 or so, $5000 definately sounds high for a B16A swap, If I was getting it installed somewhere I wouldnt pay more than $3k-$3.5k I guess they are modifying the header for the two o2 sensors, giving you a short ram, and the A/C bracket is from Hasport or Place? Id call other places for prices even Intercrew (they are high too but not as high as Jotech), maybe Alamo Autosports talk to Bryce, good luck

Do you know anywhere else where I can get the swap done?
I want it done right, but then again i don't know
many shops around here. Can anyone let me know of some?

Hey man, that is a lot of money. I just finished a B16 swap into a 88 dx crx. I charged the guy 2350. Those prices are high. I wish I could help you on that but I am iun Northern Cali. As for the hubs and such.....get the SiR axles that come with the swap. They will fit your car no problem. This is what you have to do:

Take the little silver/blackish ring that is on the back side of the hub....the ring goes around the hole in the hub. Get a flat head screw driver and hammer that spacer off. It is lightweight and aluminum. Should come off pretty easy.
Then, take the SiR axles and do the same thing on the axle side that goes into the hub. There is a black plastic ring that goes around the axle......hammer that one off as well. They both should come off pretty easy. That is it. You dont need the hubs from another car or anything. People just dont know. LEt me know if you have any questions. I can get those axles as well. They run about 150 shipped for the set.

Will that mess up anything?? Because the guy said that
it would not fit. He said that it would work on an Si,
but not on the Dx. So that's why i would need to get
the hubs and spindles from either the Si or an Integra.
Also someone else here said that the DX hubs won't
accept the B16S axles. I'm not trying to say that you're
wrong. I just want to know if you have done it before
and did it work fine without a problem.

I just finished that one yesterday. I have done about 11 dx to b16 swaps, all using the same method. Zero problems.

So did you charge the 2350 with the engine included
or just the installation?

the dx spindles are the same as the Si spindles. If i were you and can turn a wrench do it yourself. Obviously there are plenty of people to help. Here is what you would need to do. First off get a bolt in kit, HASPORT is very nice(opinion). you will need to rewire your current harness like an Si, this site will go threw it step by step. http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/4gdxtozc.html Get the motor of your choice. Once you get your motor you will know what axles you need(it depends on the intermediate shaft you get with the motor and the bolt in kit as to where the motor is placed, farther forward or farther back. ) Everything else is really simple. Get 90-93 integ shift linkage and you are pretty much set. The wiring would probably be the hardest challenge. Grab some friends and some B E E R and have some fun.

For a Si car........2450 for everything.
