Default type r swap. worth it?

I have a 2000 LS, and a friend of a friend is selling...well ill just copy it...:

I'm getting the motor from a JDM engine supplier. It's from a jdm 99 honda integra type r. It has 11k, it's legit with papers. It comes with full motor, all sensors, tranny, ecu, wiring harness, axles, and motor mounts. yeah $4700 would be good. it has been compression tested before it's shipped out, and also pressure washed so it looks pretty lol.

I might be able to talk it down to 4500, or so.... also, i was wondering what i could sell my stock ls engine for with 25K on it......anyone done this swap or know of anyone who has think this is a good price? any help/suggestions/tips would be great, i'm still thinking about it.

I wouldnt do it for the life of me --- with that cash a built turbo is possible, which will rock an ITR motors world.

what are you looking for from your car? Road/Track racing, drag/straight line performance, autox, or just daily driveable fun?

daily fun ofcourse . drag/straight line...autox..... i know a turbo is definatly possible for that amount of $. but i would like to stay all motor. i'm curious what a type r engine with only 11K on it would be worth with everything included....
and if anyone would or has done this....

if you don't mind the extra effort and trouble of purchasing the the r motor, selling the ls motor and putting the r motor in, i think it would be okay. a power gain of nearly 50 all motor ponies, and still stock, plenty of room for more potential if you have more money down the road...for the money you spent on that, though you could probably go with a good n/a non-vtec set up as well that could rival mildly modded r's.

just remember, if you do the swap, you car will still be an ls with an r motor and tranny....it still can't compare to an r chassis and what it has to offer IMO

Well...with that kind of money you can easily build a nice turbo setup. Prob get more hp from a good turbo setup than the 200 HP from a type-R? Correct me if I'm wrong on the Type R HP.

Hey i got a 94 rs non vtec It puts down 225 at the wheels. It has out ran three type r's I only have problems with one and he had NOS. I got about 2,200 In my motor that includes my clutch and trans, I did go with 99 Si trans i got it from a friend he blew out the diff in it but the gears were good. I got SRP pistons 10.5:1, Crower rods, Crower 404 Cams, Ferria Vales, Duel springs and titaium retainers. I did all the build up wich is not hard. The head i had sent off only to have the valve guides re-done. The car was down for a week and only because i took my time. A type r motor is nice but it will cost a hell of alot more to build it up. You can build a Ls/Vtec That will have more power. You also will still have money to take your girl out. Just shop around you see for your self. My motor Now has 45,000 On it and the number hace yet to drop. Its seems to get stronger every week. My plan is to now go with a turbo its on the car but i lack some things to complete it. I wanted to stay all motor but i hate to lose. Skies the limit with a turbo you know. I ran NOS, It was fun but when it runs out thats it. That sucks! Well good luck with what evey you end up with. Let me know if you may need help. Full_of_speed@yahoo.com. See Ya!

If i were you i would do it. That whole Type-R setup usually goes for around 6000 Shipped. Now if thats 4700 Shipped, i'd be all over that like white on rice. As a matter of fact if you don't buy it have the seller send me an e-mail. Anyway you buy the motor, then save up some money so you can get it installed. Once it's installed im sure you know someone with a bubble back or crx that still has a sohc non-vtec under the hood. You can sell them your Complete LS swap for at least 2000 grand. Being that it's a 2000 engine with only 25,000 miles which means it's still new. Now yes with 4700 you can do alot with that an make your car faster than a type-r. But when you do this your going to have alot of down time, unless you have a beater and you can afford for your car to stay at the shop. Now if this is your only car, and you need it to get around then you are going to have down time. For EX. your gonna want LSD, so your going to have to pull the motor out and take off the tranny and install the LSD and lets say a stage 3 clutch and flywheel(assuming you have this at the same time). Then you put the motor back in and you enjoy it. Now you want to do the block. So for Ex. your going to install High Compression pistons and new rods.(Now more down time) After you enjoy your new block setup, then you do the head. So you add Cams, Cam gears, new valvetrain, Intake mani, and TB.(Now more down time to get that done) And you know that everything never goes smoothly, ther's always some type of problem that arises, and cause yuor setup to be prolonged.

Now if you have 4700 cash right now you can buy all the parts at one time to upgarde your LS engine, (i know that). But to get all of that done is probably going to cost more in labor than dropping a Type-R motor. Now a Type-r motor with just Intake, Header, And Exhaust will be able to beat alot of cars anyway, and make you a very satisfied Honda owner. Go with the Type-R i know you want VTEC. I mean who doesn't want VTEC.

2000 ls is maybe worth 13-14K, right? Sell that, add 4700, and you are at 17.5-19K. I think you can add a few bucks and get a real type R, and have no hassle.

Maybe I am wrong though.

hey you guys have been real helpful....davanca24, and 1nosacura, i see both your points, and i'm still unsure, but after reading davanca's intake it does sound nice . though this is my daily driven car, so that is alot of down time. I was curious about what a type r motor would go for, so technically it is a deal, and i know i'm not going turbo. so staying all motor with a type r engine makes for a bit a drool, especially with the plans i could dream about once the stock type r engine is in.I'd be right around 200 HP right? i thought it was even a bit more....eitherway i'll let u guys know, and if it falls through, which is a good possibility i'll let u know, especially davanca, if you are interested even.

anyone else have an imput? i think its a steal...4500...minus selling my stock ls engine for hopefully 1500-2000....a practically brand new type r engine for under 3000 mmmmmmm

Just boost yours man. You could make a nice set up with the money you will save from keeping your motor.

Are you interested in selling your LS motor? I may be interested. Also, what does a good turbo setup go for for a integra?

Thats what im talking about. I want his hookup too. I'll buy three of those for that price complete. Then turn around and make profit. Maybe those 90-96 LS motors with 120K-plus on them goes for 800 complete. But a 2000 LS Motor with 25,000 miles complete. I mean your getting motor and tranny, ecu, wiring harness, motor mounts and axles LEGIT with papers. I think 2000 is a fair price. Go with the type-r motor.

I'd like to know where he gets 800 LS motors from also, i've asked around, and most people are saying $2000 is prolly right around what I would get, whihc means when all said and done, i could get this r motor for $2500...no shipping is needed, the guy is local, and we also have a garage with a lift to do the install....the more and more i think about it, the more serious I am about doing this...especially if I could get upwards of $2000 for my LS motor

The R motor will give you that all motor power and great quality. You have a great situation and either way you decide you will end up with a good deal. I am interested in the motor of your LS.....

True.... I hope i can come though for the type r motor, i'd gain about 60 all motor horses, and next spring i could have endless plans with still a stock motor. I'll let people know who are interested in the LS motor if this goes through and I can front the 4700.
thanx guys
