i need help desperetly, i left my dip stick at my friends place and he's outa town and i have already drained my oil and i have no idea how to measue my oil. can anyone give me the measurements of the metal part of the dip stick. from the bottom of the top of the plastic piece to the bottom and how far the 2 markings are from the bottom, i am just gonna make one out of a small siny rod for now. all help is appreciated.

 

u drained it all already? ur supposed to put 3.5 qts in it. the only thing i can say is to have ur friend bring ur dipstick over to ur house or buy a new one.

 

na can do, he is away at college and his parents live in vegas while he's at school so i am SOL, but if i put 3.5 quarts in i should be good then?

a d16 uses barely more than 3

 

i have a book on all how-to's and every spec on every honda civic, crx, and del sol from 87-95. it is 3.5 on the d16. i also have a d16 and thats what i put in mine.

 

If you let it drain a long time, and you changed the filter it's 4 on the safe side!

4 would go WAAAAY past the dipstick on mine.
The Helms says 4.2 for engine overhaul, so I guess if your bone dry and don't add oil to the filter before reinstalling you can squeeze 4 in.

 

i'd say go buy a new dipstick and find out for your self

 

go get yourself another dipstick. or borrow someones. if you overfill it you could blow your seals.

 

actually it's 3.4...i work at an oil change place and every d series holds 3.4 including the filter.....

 

I put 4 quarts in my civic all the time but I have a turbo and an oil cooler so thats why.

 

I put 4 quarts all the time in....no probs....

 

make sure you stick something in that dipstick to cover it for a bit..

 

I thought a D16 used 3.32 quarts, but I guess the underside of my hood could be wrong.

Check oil light comes on at start up and goes away 1 second later.
No worries or issues.

But, I would only go 4 in the future.

 

grab 4 fill it and go to autozone and buy the ricer dipstick for like 15 bucks and put it in.

 

i don't have an auto zone, i'm on an island in alaska. we have a shitty napa, maybe theyll have ariceer one for me
