Icon7 1993 Honda Del Sol

Hi There i just wanted to put up my build, its been forever since i've been on here and i am looking for advice on what to do next so please feel free to input your opinion to help my build

Thanks,

here are some pics from along the way and my parts list.

I bought this Honda Del Sol in Decemberof 08, Since December i have deployed twice to the Middle East with the military. With the time i was home i have been working on this project. I purchased this 1993 Honda Del Sol SI for $300 from a friend in need of money to pay his rent and an overdraft fee at the bank. needless to say i think i robbed him blind but that's what happens when people get desprite.

When i purchased the car the body was banged up pretty well, the crankshaft pulley was missing and half of the bolt that held the crankshaft pulley on was still inside the engine. ****NOTE: the kid i bought this car from also said to me when i asked when was the last time he changed the oil and i quote " you have to change the oil in a car?" so yea from day one this car has been completely rebuilt.

When i finally received the Title for the car when took nearly two months, i tore the engine completely apart bolt for bolt.

Here are a few pics:

Immediately after pulling the engine out

pretty burnt up

The crankshaft was cracked and no good due to the crankshaft pulley disappearing in it's magic trick

The bearings were scored hard

Pistons were pretty much toast, burnt toast...

Garbage Pistons and connecting rods

Just a pic of how bad the oil was when i crack this open

So after the complete tear down it was time to take the engine to the machine shop outside Schafferstown on 501 called Ober Performance - Machine Shop where i had the block and the head acid bathed, all the valves were replaced the block was bored .20 over and the notched to accommodate the larger connecting rods. With Vitara Pistons and the custom Connecting Rods fitted into the block snug, i bought a new Crankshaft and had it Mircopolished and checked structurally before that was installed. I also got the flywheel resurfaced

i used ARP head studs to fasten the head to the block.

once the head and the block were back together, i purchased a Stage 4, 4 puck disc Comp Clutch and a BLOX intake from IMW.

I bought a Turbo and Exhaust manifold, altho i recently bought a Garrett Ball bearing turbo to replace this one.

I ordered a 255 LPH Walbro Fuel pump and installed that.

I then got the Valve cover power coated Candy blue

I took the Transmission to Shaun to have checked out, and everything seemed alright. So in the mean time the Del Sol looked like this:

After awhile of not having any access to an engine hoist... it took four brave crazy people to hand drop the entire engine back into the car, and let me tell you it was a very odd experience...

but the final result was not to bad...

Now that the Engine was back into the Sol it was time to try and start it.... Sadly there was no luck... Caveman (Boostnpleasure) came over to help out and we found out (AFTER THE EXTREMELY LARGE FIREBALL BLEW OUT THE EXHAUST SIDE OF THE TURBO) that the firing order was off even tho the order was written on the distributor cap (IT WAS WRONG). We fixed the firing order and got it to run very rough but she was running, we knew the timing was off a bit but we did not have a timing light to set it correctly.

The next step was to take her to IMW to get her all set up and tuned. 650cc Injectors were installed and my iridium spark plugs were replaced with NGK spark plugs. an electronic boost solenoid was installed and everything else that was needed was added, it was time to DYNO Tune the Del Sol when Johns computer picked up that the number 3 cylinder was not firing correctly... we tested spark, and fuel they were both a go, after a disappointing ordeal we found out that there was an 80% compression leak in the Head... I bent a valve trying to start it when the firing order was incorrect.

Most recently, I tore the head back off and took it back to Ober's and had all the valves replaced lucky for me i decided not to put the Head back on before I was deployed because now i am looking into purchasing a racing camshaft and new retainers and spring that will be installed by Ober's performance.

Small odds and Ends are also being purchased while i am way such as drilled and slotted rotors, HID Headlight Kit, and a high security Alarm system...

When i get back in February it should take me about a week to finish up what i have to then it is back to IMW to get a fresh tune with the Garrettball bearing turbo installed, and no compression leaks...

The Bisimoto Customly Engineered 1.8 Camshaft, Adjustable Cam Gear, Titanium Retainers and springs

Gauges from GlowShift (oil pressure, Boost, and Wideband A/F)

Candy blue keyed lug nuts

Slotted and drilled Rotors

So Finally home from the Good ol' Sandbox, and time to update my build tread now that I got time to take a look at my Sol.

So last thing i mentioned was the car would not start up, my friend who was trying to get the car running told me that it was the dizzy HE WAS WRONG. altho the new Dizzy couldn't hurt the build. The problem as i thought was simply a 15 amp Fuse under the dash and according to the Haynes manual it was the ACG Fuse. once that fuse was replaced the car started right up!!!! and beautiful lopy idel started and after a few heat cycles i re torqued the head..

Then i painted the Calipers blue. and put the Drilled and Slotted Rotors on the fron and back. afterwards, i decided to be a little different and put spacers on the rear and pushed the tires out a bit. finally i put the new rims and Tires on.

This is what i have done and what i want to do, if you have any advice for me i will gladly accept it and consider it thoroughly. i am no expert and i am still learning.

I appreciate everyone's Input

Nice build with the Bisi cam/springs and all that top shelf stuff, good hp/tq i see on the dyno sheet that it was on High boost and what boost were you running?

It almost looks like the power wanted to keep going and you shut it down early at 7k. maybe thats the design of the cam, thats why i ask you but it looks as you should rev it out to 7.5 or 7.8 if the bisi stuff can handle it which im sure it could.

Also i like the rim/lugs/brake setup looks nice were did you get the blue lug nuts and how much? shoot me a pm on that if you could

is the turbo manifold really called a half ramhorn lol... hopefuly it dosnt crack like everyone says they do, good build overall

currently boosting 15lbs, looking to pump it up to 21lbs at some point. and honestly i gald you said saometing about that cut off on the dyno, i never thought twice about it.

I bought the entire Turbo setup used from a guy on another car forum, during research thats the closest name i could come up with that design not sure if it is actually called that or not.... lol

PM Sent

but i got the lugs off Ebay for around $20 i just searched Locking Lugs and chose the color..

Thanks for the interest in the build!!!

It looks like you weren't being cheap on things like the clutch, valvetrain, cam, so why the piece of **** ebay turbo and manifold?

Honestly in the start i was offered the entire turbo setup for a more than reasonable price, and this was my first NA-Turbo build ever so i took what i could get in the beginning. the further i got in the build the more i learned that theres no way that you can skimp out on quality parts and have a well built motor. i've just been running out of money and dont have an extra 1200 laying around to pick up the turbo and mani i want for the car. but it is in the works i have a small savings set aside for the new stuff, it will onlt get better!!!

The current turbo is just a Chinese T3/T4.... For now, as i mentioned in my build thread above i am looking at getting the .70 Autoworks Spec Turbo and the full Ramhorn Mani

Thanks for the interest, and the parts (Bisi)

Cool build man, looks good, looking forward to what you decide to go with when you ditch that turbo/mani.

magnaflow
Posted by yortaurge

I was a bit bored last night and decided to do a quick video on my Magnaflow cat back exhaust. It has the 3in intermediate pipe with a Magnaflow free flow cat. Headers are next but I'm broke so those will have to wait..

Hows the sound? Is it too loud, I have been warned by several guys that these can be super loud
