There were no civic cx' in 91

Are you asking the cheapest way to swap in a D16?
Um...
step 1: Buy the motor
step 2: put it in

If you want speed on a budget... the 1.5 is ok, but the DPFI intake manifold and the 4-speed tranny is what's killing you.
Do an MPFI swap (do a search, there's lots of info on this) and get a 5-speed out of an 89-91 Si, both will give you a night and day difference.

If canadian Std's are called "CX", and my car was manufactured in Canada, can I start calling my civic Std a CX?

my civics a cx but it has the 5 speed tranny, the only difference between my car and a DX is that i only have one mirror , no hatch cover in the rear and no hatch light. Other then that the car is the same as a dx.

my civics a cx but it has the 5 speed tranny
then it's probably got the DX tranny gearing, in which case all you really need tranny wise is the Si final drive.
