Default Difficult problem at hand: Melted plastics on header and cat.

The story goes as I got lazy and didn't swirl to avoid a huge plastic bag. After I ran it over, I look in the mirror expecting it to pop out under my car...it didn't, soon afterwards it start to stink and I have to do a emergency stop and pull that crap out. Well, even since then, the smell persisted and I get hallucinated everytime I drive my car(sMokE pLasTic eveRY daY).

I already hose off the big piece underneath that has burn to solid shape. But the odor is still there. So I jack up the car last night and went underneath to find out that the cat has lots of black stains that looks like the leftovers of the platic. I used a blade trying to scrap them off with little effects. I Simple Green them and to no use.

Anyone have been through such a weird problem? How do I remove them?

Hmm... Maybe a wire brush like you'd use to clean a charcoal grill?

oh and if you are really that worried about it. go start your car and let it idle for a while. more it runs the quicker it will met/burn off.

I have had kind of a similar problem. The engine splashguard has two little arcs burned into the back of it from my header tubes. The crap that got stick to the header has mostly burned off now. It will eventually come off I think. Try to scrub it off with a wire brush when the header is hot.

just be happy it wasn't a huge pile of something smelling worse

You could probably grind it off...but a bag should burn off quick enough.

guys...it has yet been burned off. What's left over are dark purple stuff as thin as a layer of paint. I've been driving it with that smell for the past 2 weeks, an equilaent of approx. 200 miles. I'll try a brush like some of you said. Will there be any chemical compounds that can get those off?

I don't want to be force to use sandpapgers with aircraft strippers since down there is kinda hard not to have those toxic sheit dripping all over my face.

P.S> it's not the everyday groceries plastic bag. It's one of those durable ones that use for like furnitures n' stuff...I suppose they have "tougher" compound?
Because when I hose the chasis, a piece of plastic fell off. Seems like it took the chemical heating reaction and what's use to be a plastic bag had turn into a harden piece of plastic similar to lunch boxes.

I have a solution for both of us....sell me your b-pipe so you can get rid of your smell, while it's out, I'll brush it clean.
Then, give me your T1R test pipe so I can get rid of my smell on the carsound cat.
See how things work out in harmony by nature?

steel wool is a good idea.

seriously...you can't wash melted plastic off...it's bonded to the surface and won't break apart.
