advise on purchasing salvaged s2k
I wanted to get some input from you folks here. I have an opportunity to get a wrecked S2K with what seems to be suspension and some possible undercarriage damage. From the photos, seems like he/she hit a curve and bent in suspension, mainly in the rear.
I know the S2K is an awesome handling machine. So I don't know if purchasing and fixing this one is a good idea since the suspension has been jeopardized. Also, would there be potentially large problems with the rear drivetrain being in an accident like this? Any idea what this would cost?
Hope these pics help...

That looks kinda bad
i dont know if that is fixable. You should go with a machanic and see how much the damage will be. Hope that helps Greg

That looks EXACTLY like what I just did to mine. The damage was around 15K.
Actually mine was worse. My entire trunk is being replaced, not just the bumper, and my front fender, and a giant scratch down the door. Oh yea, a couple of rims too. This sucks.

I am guessing that the damges are approaching the $18,000 (for a shop to repair w/new oem parts). My reasoning is that most insurance companies total a car at 60-75% of adjusted book value (~$25,000?). I personally wouldn't do it. The frame most likely took a significant hit, the right rear suspension is clearly toast, and the front looks bad too. The rear end may be damaged, I have seen transmision cases crack due to an impact on the axle (front driver). I used to be an estimator, and jumped on the chance to pick up a wrecked crx. Big mistake. Even though it was repaired by "profesionals" (actually the guy that did it was fired shortly after) it still looks like crap, cost nearly what I could have picked up a fairly clean one for, and doesn't handle nearly like it should. Maybe others have had better luck, but I wouldn't do it again.

holy $%#! thats sad to see .....maybe for the price of fixing that up you can get a good one for less then $26k....s2000 are pretty cheap now i say pick a used one up instead of that
How much do they want for the car? I would get the car to part it out but I wouldn't try to fix the damage wait a couple of years, you will be able to get a good used one by then. The engine is worth about 10k so give it a try if the price is good.
